Millions of computers around the world are connected to each other to share information through internet. Internet stands for International Network of computers. Uses of internet are: Searching information Electronic Banking (E-banking) Communication Online Education Online Reservation Electronic Commerce (E-commerce) Entertainment Electronic Message (E-mail) Advantages of E-mail: Fast, cheap, Simple, Efficient, Versatile INTERNET TERMS An ISP (Internet Service Provider) is a company that provides internet access to users in exchange for a monthly fee. E.g. Etisalat, du. World Wide Web (WWW) refers to collection of interconnected pages that contain text, pictures, audios and videos which can be accessed through the internet by people across the world. Web Browser: Software application or program that allows us to access the entire information available on the web. E.g. Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, etc. Web Page: Individual pages that collectively form the World Wide Web. It contains text, images, videos, audios and links. A web page is created using a language called HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language). Hyperlink: Link that connects one web page to other. Website: Collection of one or more related webpages. URL: Each website or webpage is identified by its unique address known as Uniform Resource Locator (URL). E.g. https://www.sisjuwaiza.com Homepage: Opening page or main page of the website. Page 1 of 2 PARTS OF THE MICROSOFT EDGE WINDOW Address bar: The URL of the website is entered in the address bar. Back/Forward buttons: Navigate between pages. Refresh button: Reload a web page. Favorites button: used to save the URL that you like and may want to visit later. Home button: Open the browser’s homepage. Search Engines: A web search engine is a website that helps users search for information on the World Wide Web by entering keywords or phrases. The results, usually presented as links, may include text, images, audio, or video files. eg.: Google : https://www.google.com Bing : https://www.bing.com Safety on Internet Never share personal information like address, phone number, etc. without parental permission. Be polite and respectful to others online. Do not share your password with anyone. Avoid sending pictures online without your parents’ permission.
