LESSON 3 BOON OR VAIN Objectives : At the end of this lesson, you are expected to:  Identify the positive and negative effects of religions  Provide evidence that religion brought about an event in history  Justify that religion can have positive or negative effects on society  Gather print or web-based articles, photos, editorials, etc. showing the positive or negative effects of religion Study these terms :  Babaylanes or catalones - spiritual leaders in the Philippines whose functions were to intercede between the deities and people; to continue the rituals; to play as healers; and to act as cultural leaders of the community.  Xiaoor filial piety - on the other hand, is a significant aspect of Confucianism which promotes social harmony.  Ahimsa – it is the concept of non-violence in Jainism religion and promotes social solidarity. For the followers of Jainism, it is not only a worldview but a way of life.
