File Tab of MS Word Window The File tab is replaced in Office button in Word 2007. You can click it to see the back stage view. This is where you go to open or save a file, make a new document, print a document, or do anything else that has to do with files. Parts of a Word Documents 2. Quick Access Toolbar This Quick Access Toolbar is one of Microsoft Word Window 2019’s most important parts. It is also at the top left corner of the screen, right above the File Tab. It is where the commands you use most often are kept. By default, it includes the Save, Undo, and Redo commands You can change the way this toolbar looks to suit your needs. Parts of a Word Documents 3. Title Bar of MS Word It is situated at the top and middle of the document window and displays the program or document’s name. When we open that particular document in Microsoft Word, the title will appear to us as Document1 – Word. It is referring to a generic name that is shown by the software of the program. Parts of a Word Documents 4. Ribbon of MS Word Window The Ribbon contains multiple tabs, which you can find near the top of the MS Word window. Word uses a tabbed Ribbon system instead of traditional menus. The Ribbon contains all of the commands you will need to perform common tasks in Word. It has multiple tabs, each with several groups of commands. Parts of a Word Documents 5. Rulers Word has two rulers: one horizontal and one vertical. The horizontal ruler, which appears just below the Ribbon, is used to set margins and tab stops. The vertical ruler, which can be found on the left edge of the Word window, is used to determine the vertical position of elements on the page. Parts of a Word Documents 6. Zoom Control The zoom control consists of a slider that you can slide left or right to zoom in or out; you can increase or decrease the zoom factor by clicking the + buttons. Zooming in allows you to get a better look at your text. Parts of a Word Documents 7. Status Bar This Status Bar is a part of the window that displays the document information as well as the insertion point location. From left to right, this bar contains the total number of pages and words in the document, language, etc. Image placement of Text wrapping options A. In Line with Text – It is the default setting for images that are inserted and integrated in your documents. It treats your image like a text font with the bottom side totally aligned with the text line. This setting is usually used when you need to place your image at the beginning of the paragraph. B. Square – It is a setting that allows the image you inserted to be placed anywhere with the paragraph with the text going around the image in a square like frame. C. Tight – It is almost the same as the Square setting, but here the text “hug” or conforms to the general shape of the image. This allows you to get a more creative effect on your documents. D. Through – It is a setting that allows the text on your document flow even tighter taking the contours and shape of the image. Again, this can be best used with.GIF or.PNG type of image. E. Top and Bottom – Setting the pushes the texts away vertically to the top and the bottom of the image so that the image occupies a whole text line on its own. F. Behind the Text – It allow your image to be dragged and placed anywhere on your document but with all the texts floating in front of it. It effectively makes your image look like a background. G. In Front of Text – This setting allows your image to be replaced right top of the text if your image was dropped right on it. That means whatever part of the text you placed the image on, it will covered by the image. Integrating Images and External Materials Integrating or inserting pictures in your documents is fun and improves the impression of your documents. A common use of inserting a picture on a documents is when you are creating your resume. Though seemingly simple to do, your knowledge on the different materials that you insert or integrate in a Word document and its characteristics can help you create more efficient, richer documents not only in content but also in physical form. A better understanding of the physical from of your documents as well as the different materials you would allow you to be more efficient and versatile in using Microsoft Word. Kinds of Materials 1. Picture - Generally, these are electronic or digital pictures you have saved in any local storage device. There are three commonly use type of picture files. Types of picture a..JPEG or.JPG - This is pronounce as “jay-peg” - Join Photographic Experts Group. Types of picture b..PNG - It stands for Portable Network Graphics. It was build around the capabilities of.GIF. Its development was basically for the purpose of transporting images on the internet faster rates. Types of picture c..GIF - This is stand for Graphics Interchange Format. This type of image file is capable of displaying transparencies. It is also capable for displaying short animation. Kinds of Materials 2. Clipart - This is generally a.GIF type; line art drawing or images used as generic representation for ideas and object that you might want to integrate in your documents. Kinds of Materials 3. Shapes - These are printable objects or materials that you can integrate in your documents to enhance the appearance or allow you to have some tools to use for composing and representing ideas or messages. Kinds of Materials 4. Smart Art - Generally, these are predefined sets of different shapes grouped together to form ideas that are organizational or structural in nature. Kinds of Materials 5. Chart - Another type of material that can integrate in your Word documents that can allow you to represent data characteristics and trends. Kinds of Materials 6. Screenshots - Sometimes, creating reports and manuals for training or procedures will require the integration of a more realistic images of what you are discussing on your report or manual.
