In Today’s Lesson, We Will Learn About: Sound Technicians Jingle Writers Cruise Ship Musicians Entertainment Lawyers Tour Managers Music Website Designers 3 Let’s Begin! 4 Sound Technician! Salary: $30-60k Let’s Watch this video explaining what it means to be a sound tech! 5 What Is A Sound Tech? Sound Technicians use the soundboard and other audio equipment to ensure sound levels are correct and the sound is mixed well. A Sound tech is the person that makes sure all the sound equipment is working properly, is equally balanced, and has appropriate effects to enhance the overall sound. These are very common in churches or in any place where music is frequently performed. 6 Sound Tech Continued They have to know the inner workings of a soundboard and have to have a trained ear in order to balance all parts appropriately They have to know all about how to operate wires for mics, instruments, etc. They could be considered the IT guy for all things music! 7 Jingle Writer! Salary: $50,000 A jingle is a catchy tune used in advertisement and a Jingle writer is someone who creates those. A Jingle Writer creates music and lyrics to accompany a television or radio advertisement. As a Jingle Writer, you must be able to compose a catchy tune that emphasizes the selling points of your client’s product. You can work freelance or have your own company. Some Jingle Writers, however, work for companies as in-house Writers. You may have your own studio with production equipment and instruments, and possibly a roster of singers and musicians to hire. More About Jingle Writers! When a client offers you a contract to write a jingle for a product or service, they give you guidelines that may include a time limit, style of music, or keywords to include in the lyrics. You then take these guidelines, and arrange music and write lyrics. Your jingle should emphasize the key qualities of a brand and–most importantly–be memorable to the listener. Typically a designer is paid per job and usually accepts multiple clients at a time. The more you market yourself, the bigger clients you will recieve and the higher the pay will be. Tour Manager Salary: $80k 23 What is a Tour Manager? A tour manager is the person who runs the show when the band is on tour. Tour managers are responsible for making sure a concert tour runs smoothly.
