Introduction to Sociology, Anthropology, and Psychology Learning Goals Identify a definition, essential questions, and examples for each of the SAP topics. Identify the types of questions that a psychologist, anthropologist, or sociologist would ask. Identify the ways in which psychology, sociology, and anthropology are similar and different. Psychology Definition: Psychology is the scientific study of human behaviour and mental phenomena. Essential Question: How does our personality influence our behaviour? Examples of research topics: - Depression - Self esteem - Eating disorders - Etc. Psychology Sample Questions 1. What are the underlying mechanisms of attention and how do they influence behavior? 2. How do early childhood experiences shape personality and behavior in adulthood? 3. How do social influences shape individual behavior and attitudes? 4. What factors contribute to individual differences in personality? 5. What are the most effective therapeutic approaches for treating different mental health disorders? 6. How do brain structures and functions relate to specific cognitive and behavioral processes? Sociology Definition: Sociology is the study of social life, social changes, and social causes. Sociologists look at groups, societies, and institutions. Essential Questions: What are the principal norms and characteristics of our society and how do they influence our behaviour?
