Press these keys PITUITARY while on Location: At the base of the brain Present Function: Produces hormones that stimulate growth, and controls the mode! functions of other glands Press these keys THYROID while on Location: In front of the neck and below the voice box Present Function: Produces hormones that mode! regulate body metabolism, and storage of calcium in bones Press PARATHYROID these keys while on Location: In the NECK Function: Produces hormones that Present control the calcium levels in your mode! body, and normalizes bone growth Press THYMUS these keys while on Location: In front of the heart Function: Produces hormones that Present enable the body to produce T cells mode! before puberty Press ADRENAL these keys while on Location: On top of the kidneys Function: Produces hormones that Present affects metabolism, immune system mode! and blood pressure, stress reaction Press PANCREAS these keys while on Location: Behind the stomach Present Function: Produce hormones that regulate blood sugar levels mode! Press REPRODUCTIVE these keys (TESTES) while on Location: Scrotum Present Function: Produces hormones that mode! control maturation of sperm and development of the secondary male sexual characteristics Press REPRODUCTIVE these keys (OVARIES) while on Location: Pelvic area Function: Produces hormones that Present influence development of the mode! secondary female sexual characteristics, and maturation of the egg cells and ovulation. Press PINEAL these keys while on Location: In the brain Present Function: Produces a hormone that regulates the biological clock in some mode! animals. HORMONES HORMONES are organic substances released by the glands of the endocrine system directly into the bloodstream. HORMONES capable of changing the physiological and metabolic behaviors of their target cells to maintain homeostasis. ENDOCRINE SYSTEM: GLANDS, THEIR HORMONES AND FUNCTIONS Press these keys PITUITARY while on Location: At the base of the brain Present Function: Produces hormones that stimulate growth, and controls the mode! functions of other glands Press these keys HORMONES while on RELEASED BY Present mode! PITUITARY Press GROWTH HORMONE these keys while on Causes growth of almost all Present cells and tissues in the mode! body. ROLES OF HORMONES THE MALE REPRODUCTIVE HORMONES The pituitary gland releases follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). MALE REPRODUCTIVE HORMONE As the FSH enters the testes, it stimulates the Sertoli cells that are responsible for nourishing the sperm cells that the testes produce to facilitate the process of sperm production. MALE REPRODUCTIVE HORMONE Also, LH enters the testes to stimulate the interstitial cells called the Leydig cells to make and release testosterone into the testes and the blood. Press these keys MALE while on SECONDARY Present CHARACTERISTICS mode! Growth of facial, underarm, chest, Press pubic and body hair. Deepening of the voice these keys Development of the male while on musculature and genitals. Present Increased secretion of sweat and mode! oil Responsible for a male’s muscular strength THE FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE HORMONES The pituitary gland releases follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE HORMONE The FSH produces estrogen that controls the growth and release of eggs from the ovaries. Together with it is another hormone known as progesterone which prepares the uterus so that the fertilized egg can grow in it. Press PROGESTERONE these keys is also responsible for while on preventing muscle contraction Present of the uterus that can cause the mode! egg to detach from the uterus. FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE HORMONE In addition, FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone) and LH (luteinizing hormone) plays a role in the regulation of estrogen-progesterone levels. FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE HORMONE It affects the development of the follicles and maturation of the egg as well as the process of ovulation (menstrual cycle). Press these keys FEMALE while on SECONDARY Present CHARACTERISTICS mode! Growth of underarm and Press pubic hair these keys Breast development, wider while on hips, smaller waist Present Menstruation Increased secretion of mode! sweat and oil
