THE IMPORTANCE OF READING AND WRITING Reading and writing are important skills that you need to develop. You need these skills to become more productive in learning Proficiency in reading enables you to acquire a market of ideas, while effective writing shares your opinions, thoughts, and feelings Reading enhances a variety of ideas among the learners. Writing expresses what the author wants to share to others. “Reading makes a full man.” –Francis Bacon “Writers are not born, they are made.” –Anonymous To assess your reading and writing skills, do the following activity. a.What materials do you usually read? o Books o Magazines/journals/periodicals o Comics o Academic Literature (case studies, term papers, articles) b. Did you like the last reading material you read? c. How many books do you usually read in a month? Why do you need to master English Language? Reading and writing are the cornerstones of literacy. One cannot exist without the other because you cannot read without learning how to write, and vice versa. THE IMPORTANCE OF READING Many do not consider the complexity and difficulty of the writing process. In comparison with other academic activities, this is the one that perhaps requires more skills than the others. For instance, you have to be proficient in the language and to understand the basic rules of grammar. For another, you need to have a wide vocabulary and a good imagination in order to churn out extraordinary text that is different from that of your peers. Hence, senior high school students can have a great time to nurture this love for writing based on the information from any reading material. From reading, one can enhance his mind and translate this into writing. Assign ed Directions: Read the story carefully and do the activities that follow.
