Sociologist - people who study sociology try to understand why societies work the way they do and they are interested in social change. In your own little way, how do you make the world better? Areas of Sociology 1. Social Organization - covers the study of social institutions, social groups, social stratification, ethnic groups and relations in other similar subjects. 2. Social Psychology - deals with the study of human nature as an outcome of group life, social attitudes, collective behavior, and personality formation. Social change and Social disorganization - includes the study of a change in culture and social relations and the disruption that may occur in society 4. Human Ecology - studies the nature and behavior of a given population and its relationship to the group's present social institutions. Areas of Sociology 5. Population and Demography - concerned with the study of population number, composition, change, and quality as they influence the economic, political, and social system. 6. Sociological Theory and Method - concerned with the applicability and usefulness of the principles and theories of group life as bases for the regulation of man's social environment. Anthropology LOGUS = SCIENCE OR STUDY ANTHROPOS = MAN - is the study of human beings, their cultures, behaviors, traditions, and how they interact with their environment over time. Branches of Anthropology Biological or Physical Anthropology - This branch focuses on the biological side of humans, like their evolution, how humans adapt to their environment, and the physical differences among groups over time. Branches of Anthropology Cultural Anthropology This branch studies the differences between cultures, traditions, and practices around the world. It helps us understand why people live and act differently in various societies. Ethnography - involves observing and describing the culture of a group of people. Ethnology - compares and analyzes different cultures to understand their similarities and differences. Branches of Anthropology Linguistic Anthropology - This branch studies languages and how they shape culture and society. It also looks at how languages change over time. Branches of Anthropology Archaeology - examines past human societies by studying artifacts and remains, like tools and fossils. Main Evidence for Evaluating Pre-Historic Societies Fossils - Are remnants from the past that have organic life withstood the test of the time and forces of nature.
