COLLEGE OF EDUCATION FOUNDAT ION OF SOCIAL STUDIES 10:00-11:00 AM MWF FOUNDATION OF SOCIAL STUDIES 1ST Semester AY 2024-2025 JOEMAR N. PIHNUTON, MAT SocStud What Kind of Science are the ? FOUNDATION OF SOCIAL STUDIES 1ST Semester AY 2024-2025 JOEMAR N. PIHNUTON, MAT SocStud Social science is the study of people: as individuals, communities, and societies; their behaviors and interactions with each other and with their built, technological, and natural environments. Social science seeks to understand the evolving human systems across our increasingly complex world and how our planet can be more sustainably managed. It’s vital to our shared future. FOUNDATION OF SOCIAL STUDIES 1ST Semester AY 2024-2025 JOEMAR N. PIHNUTON, MAT SocStud Social science includes many different areas of study, how people organize and govern themselves, and negotiate power and international relations; how wealth is generated, economies develop, and economic futures are modeled; how business works and what a sustainable future means; how populations are changing, and issues of unemployment, deprivation, and inequality; and how these social, cultural, and economic dynamics vary in different places, with different outcomes. FOUNDATION OF SOCIAL STUDIES 1ST Semester AY 2024-2025 JOEMAR N. PIHNUTON, MAT SocStud SCOPE OF SOCIAL SCIENCES FOUNDATION OF SOCIAL STUDIES 1ST Semester AY 2024-2025 JOEMAR N. PIHNUTON, MAT SocStud Sociology In this field, the structure and function of societies are discussed. It includes topics such as family, education, religion, government, social change, the influence of culture on humans, etc. FOUNDATION OF SOCIAL STUDIES 1ST Semester AY 2024-2025 JOEMAR N. PIHNUTON, MAT SocStud Sociology is the scientific study of human social relations or group life. It primarily deals with social interaction or the responses of persons to each other. Social interaction is arguably the basic sociological concept as it is the rudimentary component of all relationships and groups that compose human society. Subjects of inquiry in sociology include the ways in which social structures and institutions (such as class, family, community, and power) and social problems (such as crime and abuse) affect society. FOUNDATION OF SOCIAL STUDIES 1ST Semester AY 2024-2025 JOEMAR N. PIHNUTON, MAT SocStud Psychology Focuses on the study of the human mind and its behavior. This subject explores different areas such as human personality, abnormal behavior, the process of cognition, emotional regulation, and the biological basis of behavior. FOUNDATION OF SOCIAL STUDIES 1 Semester AY 2024-2025 ST JOEMAR N. PIHNUTON, MAT SocStud Economics The focus of economics is on the production, distribution, and consumption of commodities. The main subjects of economics are Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, monitoring economics, etc. FOUNDATION OF SOCIAL STUDIES 1ST Semester AY 2024-2025 JOEMAR N. PIHNUTON, MAT SocStud Political Science The subject of political science studies the different political systems and structures of governments, along with international relations. PIHNUTON, MAT SocStud Anthropology Cultures, societies, and behaviors of the present as well as the past are discussed in the subject of anthropology. Its subbranches are cultural anthropology, archeology, physical anthropology, and linguistic anthropology. FOUNDATION OF SOCIAL STUDIES 1ST Semester AY 2024-2025 JOEMAR N. FOUNDATION OF SOCIAL STUDIES 1ST Semester AY 2024-2025 JOEMAR N. PIHNUTON, MAT SocStud Geography as a discipline can be split broadly into two main sub-fields: human geography and physical geography. The former focuses largely on the built environment and how space is created, viewed, and managed by humans as well as the influence humans have on the space they occupy. The latter examines the natural environment and how the climate, vegetation & life, soil, water, and landform are produced and interact. As a result of the two subfields using different approaches a third field has emerged, which is environmental geography FOUNDATION OF SOCIAL STUDIES 1ST Semester AY 2024-2025 JOEMAR N. PIHNUTON, MAT SocStud History is the continuous, systematic narrative and research of past events as relating to the human species; as well as the study of all events in time, in relation to humanity. History can be seen as the sum total of many things taken together and the spectrum of events occurring in action following in order leading from the past to the present and into the future. The historical method comprises the techniques and guidelines by which historians use primary sources and other evidence to research and then to write history. FOUNDATION OF SOCIAL STUDIES 1ST Semester AY 2024-2025 JOEMAR N. PIHNUTON, MAT SocStud Law incommonplace, means a rule, which (unlike a rule of ethics) is capable of enforcement through institutions. Law is not always enforceable, especially in the international relations context. It has been defined as a "system of rules", as an "interpretive concept” to achieve justice, as an "authority" to mediate people's interests, and even as "the command of a sovereign, backed by the threat of a sanction”. However one likes to think of law, it is a completely central social institution. Legal policy incorporates the practical manifestation of thinking from almost every social sciences and humanity. FOUNDATION OF SOCIAL STUDIES 1ST Semester AY 2024-2025 JOEMAR N. PIHNUTON, MAT SocStud Linguistics investigates the cognitive and social aspects of human language. The field is divided into areas that focus on aspects of the linguistic signal, such as syntax (the study of the rules that govern the structure of sentences), semantics (the study of meaning), phonetics (the study of speech sounds) and phonology (the study of the abstract sound system of a particular language); however, work in areas like evolutionary linguistics (the study of the origins and evolution of language) and psycholinguistics (the study of psychological factors in human language) cut across these divisions.
