WHAT IS THE DIFFERENT BETWEEN ENGINEER AND ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGI ICH BODY THAT ACCREDITATE PROGRAMME ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGIST? AFTER GRADUATION, WHICH BODY CAN YOU REGISTERED WHAT ARE THE TWO APPROCHES OF ETHICS CAN BE APPLIED? 2.1 THE ROLE OF TECHNOLOGIST IN GOV AND PRIVATE SECTOR 2.1 THE ROLE OF TECHNOLOGIST IN GOVERNMENT & PRIVATE SECTOR Before a job begins: technologist investigate construction sites, make budgets, and design the structure to be built. technologist conduct research, advisory services, and developing and design of commercial-scale For example: chemical processes and equipment to refine crude oil and other liquids or gases; and to produce materials and products such as derivatives petroleum, explosives, food products and beverages, drugs, or substances synthetic. 2.1 THE ROLE OF TECHNOLOGIST IN GOVERNMENT & PRIVATE SECTOR Once the job begins: technologist are often on site organizing and supervising the delivery and use of materials, equipment, and human resources. They are responsible for documentation and follow-up as the project moves towards completion. 2.1 THE ROLE OF TECHNOLOGIST IN GOVERNMENT & PRIVATE SECTOR Once completed: technologist are involved in the final inspection and maintain good relations and technical consulting with other experts related. technologist are involved in the process of turning the structure over to the community and those who will maintain it. TASKS THAT ARE INVOLVED WITH ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY 1. Research the need for roads, airports, or other structures in a specific location. 2. Prepare contracts 3. Evaluate and recommend materials 4. Conduct surveys 5. Take photographs 6. Design all the elements of a construction project TASKS THAT ARE INVOLVED WITH ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY 7. Monitor project progress and handle challenges 8. Obtain the appropriate permits and clearances 9. Implement maintenance procedures and follow-up 10. Prepare and present specifications 11. Review bids from contractors 12. Inspect work on an on-going basis 13. Conduct feasibility studies and environmental impact studies 14. Take on client relations responsibilities 15. Prepare and monitor budget. AREAS OF SPECIALIZATION IN ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY 1. Water Resources 7.Transportation 2. Environmental Engineering Engineering Technology Technology 8. Architecture 3. Construction 9. Geomatic Engineering 4. Hydraulics @Surveying 5. Transportation 10. Structural 6. Geotechnical Engineering Engineering 11. System Engineering Technology ROLE OF TECHNOLOGIST IN GOVERNMENT SECTOR Technologist is very important in government sector. In government sector, technologist investigate the need for roads, buildings, water resources, bridges, tunnels, etc. Maintain and manage the structures once they are there. ROLE OF TECHNOLOGIST IN PRIVATE SECTOR Manufacturing Organization for research and engineering division many technologist held position as developer, planner, research technologist, consultant, contractor and related support activities including reliability and maintainability works. PLANNER Planning provides a method of identifying objectives and designing a sequence of program & activities to achieve objectives. As a planner they must know some planning concepts such as: 1. Responsibility for planning. 2. Planning premises 3. Planning horizon 4. System of planning It is important that planner understand the role of: 1. Regulations 2. Primary infrastructure 3. Land taxation 4. Shaping the spatial development of cities 5. Impacting the price of land and floor space 6. Allowing economic growth CONSULTANT 1. Consultants are considered to be specialist and experts in their field who give advice and guidance to organizations and companies. 2. Consultants or contractors as they are also known can either be self employed or they can work as a partner in a private company or consulting firm. 3. The sectors that consultants can typically be found is very wide, for instance management, technology, Some of the responsibilities that should be hold by technologists are: 1. Professional actions and the outcomes of the actions. 2. Technologists should know the relevant laws and regulations of their countries. 3) Technologists are committed to develop sensible technology and technical solutions : a. Defining the technical characteristics of products and processes. b. Suggesting alternative technical solution and approaches. c.Consider the possibilities of unwanted technological development and deliberate misuse of products and processes. 2.2 TECHNOLOGIST RESPONSIBILITY IN ITS ORGANIZATION ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGIST USE THE PRINCIPLES OF BIOLOGY AND CHEMISTRY TO DEVELOP SOLUTIONS TO ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS. THEY ARE INVOLVED IN WATER AND AIR POLLUTION CONTROL, RECYCLING, WASTE DISPOSAL, AND PUBLIC HEALTH ISSUES. ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGISTS CONDUCT HAZARDOUS-WASTE MANAGEMENT STUDIES IN WHICH THEY EVALUATE THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE HAZARD, ADVICE ON ITS TREATMENT AND THEY DESIGN MUNICIPAL WATER SUPPLY AND INDUSTRIAL WASTEWATER TREATMENT SYSTEMS, CONDUCT RESEARCH ON THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF PROPOSED CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS, ANALYZE SCIENTIFIC DATA, AND PERFORM QUALITY- CONTROL CHECKS. ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGISTS ARE CONCERNED WITH LOCAL AND WORLDWIDE ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES. SOME MAY STUDY AND ATTEMPT TO MINIMIZE THE EFFECTS OF ACID RAIN, GLOBAL WARMING, AUTOMOBILE EMISSIONS, AND OZONE DEPLETION. THEY ALSO MAY BE INVOLVED IN THE PROTECTION OF WILDLIFE. MANY ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGISTS WORK AS CONSULTANTS, HELPING THEIR CLIENTS TO COMPLY WITH REGULATIONS, PREVENT ENVIRONMENTAL DAMAGE, AND CLEAN UP HAZARDOUS SITES. (EIA) 2.3 TECHNOLOGIST AS AN AGENT OF DEVELOPMENT Technologist’s development implementation: 1. Technologists are committed to keeping up and continually developing further their professional skills and competencies. 2. In cases of conflicting values, they are expected to analyse and weigh controversial views through discussions that cross borders of disciplines and cultures. 3. In all countries, national laws and regulations exist which concern technology use, working conditions, and the natural environment. 4. If the conflict undergo cannot be resolved cooperatively with employers or customers, the technologists may apply to the appropriate professional institutions which are prepared to follow up such ethical conflicts., Technologists may consider to directly inform the public about such conflicts or to refuse co-operation altogether. 5. Technologists are committed to educational activities in schools, universities, enterprises and professional institutions with the aims of promoting and structuring technology education, and enhancing ethical reflection 6. Technologists contribute to develop further and continually adapting these fundamentals of engineering ethics, and they participate in the discussions corresponding. a)Technologists are responsible for their professional action corresponding to their competencies and qualifications while carrying both individual and shared responsibilities b) Technologists are committed to developing sensible and sustainable technological systems c) Technologists are aware of the embeddings of technical systems into their societal, economic and ecological context, and their impact on the lives of future generations. The orientations of an technologist are: 1. The fundamental orientation in designing new technological solutions is to maintain today and for future generations, the options of acting in freedom and responsibility. 2. Technologists orient their professional responsibility on the same fundamentals of ethics as everybody else within society. Therefore technologists should not create products which are obviously to be used in unethical ways. In cases of conflicting values, technologists 3. priorities are: a. To the values of humanity over the dynamics of nature, b. To issues of human rights over technology implementation and exploitation, c. To public welfare over private interests, and d. To safety and security over functionality and profitability of their technical solutions. Development in Society Technologists can be growing as demands of business, the level of competency and the need for dedicated professionals has increased. Professional development schools make sure that people obtain the benefit he training given to them. The benefits are based on the quality, standardization and methodology applied. It helps to build confidence, promotes personal development and attracts quality staff. Quality is a priority in any business and professional development. It is not restricted to the products, but also the performance of the professionals. Professional development takes the opportunity to improve on the defects and shortcomings and deliver quality products. Conclusion Technologists have played an important part in developing and improving people’s lifestyle all around the world. Technologists also have become one of the most important elements in the development of the world. Technologists have an obligation to meet the basic needs of all humans for water, sanitation, food, health, and energy, as well as to protect cultural and natural diversity. Conclusion Educating technologists to become facilitators of sustainable development, appropriate technology, and social and economic changes represents one of the greatest challenges faced by the engineering profession today. The engineering technologist profession provides a unique opportunity to promote engineering, a discipline that has traditionally been taken for granted by government agencies The new program offers many opportunities for practicing technologists to become involved in
