Training may focus on delivering better performance in the current role or overcoming future changes. Development is aimed at the long term. It revolves around the broadening or deepening of knowledge that fits within one’s personal development Development goals and the (future) goals of the organization. Development usually happens voluntarily. Education is a more formal way to broaden one’s knowledge. E.g. techniques for improved memory, test taking strategies Learning decay: A decrease of learned skills over a period of time Practice: Repeated and systematic performance to gain proficiency Education Formal education Types of Education Non-formal education Informal education Formal education Structured hierarchically Planned and deliberate. Grading system. Syllabus / subject oriented Specific time frame to cover syllabus. Taught by teachers Non-formal education Planned and out of school system The timetable and syllabus can be adjustable. More practical and vocational education No age limit. Fees or certificates may or may not be necessary. It may be full time or part-time learning and one can earn and learn together. It involves learning of professional skills. Informal education Independent / no boundaries No definite syllabus. Not pre-planned No timetable No fees are required as we get informal education through daily experience and by learning new things. It is a lifelong process in a natural way. The certificates/degrees are not involved and one has no stress for learning the new things.
