Summary
Lecture notes covering the topics of meristematic and permanent tissues in plants from BOT1131: Plant Anatomy. The notes discuss the role of intercalary meristem in plant growth, particularly in monocots. It also explains how these tissues work together with apical and lateral meristems to drive plant growth.

Lecture 3 – Meristematic/permanent tissues BOT1131: Plant Anatomy 25.09.2024, 12-1 PM Procambium is a part of apical meristem that develops into primary vascular tissues, i.e. xylem and phloem. Intercalary Intercalary meristem is a type of primary meristematic tissue containing cells that can divide and promote plant growth in length in the middle position. Found at the base of nodes and leaf blades of monocots. This is essential to these plant groups as it serves as an adaptive mechanism against herbivory. Through intercalary growth, these plants are able to rapidly regrow leaves and elongate stems to compensate for plant parts grazed by herbivores.
