Body organization organs work together group of cells to perform function work together Body Systems Organs Tissues Cells Different tissues Smallest work together living unit Anatomical Position Is the standard reference position The body is erect (standing), The feet close to each other, The upper limb are straight and by the side, The face and palms of the hands facing forwards. ANATOMICAL PLANES SAGITTAL PLANE A vertical plane that divides the body or organ into right and left parts. MIDSAGITTAL PLANE (MEDIAN) A vertical plane that passes through midline divides the body or organ into equal right and left halves. PARASAGITTAL PLANE A vertical plane that passes through midline divides the body or organ into into 2 unequal halves TRANSVERSE PLANE A horizontal plane that divides the body into upper and lower parts. CORONAL PLANE A vertical plane that divides the body (organ) into anterior and posterior portions. Anatomical Terms Terms related to position Superior: toward the head. Anterior: toward Posterior: toward the front of the the back the body. body. Inferior (Caudal): toward the feet. Medial: Toward the midline. Lateral: Toward the side of the body. Median: at the midline Superficial: External Towards Deep: Internal Away from the surface of the body the surface of the body The nose is …………………….to the mouth. The ear is ……………………..to the eye. Anatomical Terms Terms related to movement Flexion: bending movement that decreases angle between the two bones. Extension: straightening movement that increases the angle between the two articulating bones Abduction Adduction movement away movement toward from the median the median plane. plane. Medial rotation: movement of anterior surface toward the midline Lateral rotation: movement of anterior surface away from the midline Elevation: upward Depression: downward movement movement Name these movements Name these movements Describe the anatomical position and planes Define terms related to position Summary & Wrap up Define terms related to movement Introduction, Mansoura University Gray's Anatomy for Students
