Tanning Lotion Sun exposure harms your skin in two major ways: 1- Low Energy (UVA): They cause skin aging and wrinkles and They also colours skin and give false sense of protection from the sun. UVA rays pass effortlessly through the ozone layer. Relatively constant during daylight hrs 2- High Energy (UVB) They cause sunburns, cataracts, immune system damage, skin cancer. They may alter melanoma that might be associated with severe UVB sunburns occurring before the age of 20. Most UVB rays are absorbed by the ozone layer.Greatest intensity between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm SLIDESMANIA.COM Without protection long-term damage wrinkles, sagging ,ترهل age spots, roughness, brown pigmentation, and darkening. More complications hypersensitivity reactions Golden tan is actually the earliest sign of sun damage, as the skin's outer layers darken to block out the sun. This is for people of all skin colors, and not just people with very light- colored skin. SLIDESMANIA.COM Sun Protective Importance... In United States, sunscreen is considered a drug because it makes a drug claim help prevent Reduce the Risk of Sunburn. sunburn or decrease the risks of Prevent the Signs of Aging. skin cancer and early skin aging Reduce Your Risk of Skin caused by the sun Cancer. SLIDESMANIA.COM Sun Block Disadvantages 01 More difficult—if not impossible—to rub in completely it harder to spread sunblock all over the body Annoying if person prefer invisible sun protectant SLIDESMANIA.COM Sun Screen (Chemical Sunscreen) Sunscreen is a chemical formula that works by absorbing into skin. It needs to be applied at least 10 minutes before sun exposure to give it ample time to sink in Have active ingredients, including oxybenzone or avobenzone that work to absorb harmful UV rays before they penetrate your skin. Do not leave a thick white sticky layer as physical SLIDESMANIA.COM sunscreens more cosmetically acceptable Sun Screen Disadvantages Some people are sensitive to or allergic to certain ingredients in sunscreen like PABA (para- aminobenzoic acid) they may choose to use sunblock instead of sunscreen Common sunscreen organic UV filters (avobenzone, oxybenzone, etc.) were detected on the skin, in blood, in breast milk and in urine samples weeks after a single use SLIDESMANIA.COM Sunscreen & Sunblock SLIDESMANIA.COM SPF (Sun Protection Factor) SPF is a measure of how well a sunscreen will protect skin from UV-B rays which is a kind of radiation that causes sunburn, damages skin, and can contribute to skin cancer. Sun protection factor (SPF), defined as the number of times longer that can be spent in the sun in achieving the same degree of tanning or burning as that achieved without the product. Clinically, the degree of efficacy of a sunscreen product, as defined by its sun protection factor, is defined by the following relationship. MED * with Sunscreen Product Sun Protection Factor = MED * without Sunscreen Product * The MED or Minimum Erythemal Dose is defined as the amount of UV-B radiation necessary to cause first visible reddening of the skin. SLIDESMANIA.COM SPF The one thing that doesn't vary between sunblock and sunscreen is sun protection factor (SPF). Sunblock and Sunscreen that are both SPF 30 the same level of protection. SPF value indicates the level of sunburn protection provided by the sunscreen product. Higher SPF values greater sunburn protection. SPF values only indicate a sunscreen's UVB protection SPF values determined from a test that measures protection SLIDESMANIA.COM against sunburn caused by UVB radiation How SPF is measured? Measuring how long it takes before sunburn occurs when exposed to an artificial sunlight source with and without sunscreen. SLIDESMANIA.COM 2- Measures how much of the UVB radiation is blocked. For example, SPF 30 means that 1/30 (3.3%) of the UVB radiation will hit your skin, and the remaining 96.7% will be blocked by the sunscreen SPF-50 sunscreen will let 1/50 (2%) of the UVB radiation hit your skin, and block the remaining 98% of UVB radiation. SLIDESMANIA.COM There's no sunscreen that can completely block all sun rays SLIDESMANIA.COM What about UVA?. PA (protection grade of UVA rays) indicates the level of UVA protection More (+) signs after PA mean a higher level of protection. It's recommended to use a sunscreen with PA level of at least (+++) to prevent premature ageing and skin cancer. SLIDESMANIA.COM Broad Spectrum Sunscreen Products UVB UVA SLIDESMANIA.COM Only broad spectrum sunscreen products with an SPF of at least 15 can reduce the risk of skin cancer and early skin aging caused by the sun when used as directed Application TIPS 1. Always reapply. Reapplication is just as important as the first application. At least every two hours, and more often if you're sweating or jumping in and out of the water. 2. It's okay to apply more sunscreen than you should. Better to apply too much than not enough. 3. Wearing sunscreen doesn't mean you're immune to sunburn. You're more likely to get a sunburn when the sun's rays are at their most intense, during 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. 4. Sunscreens with higher SPF do not last or remain effective on the skin any longer than lower SPF and must be continually reapplied as directed, usually every two hours. 5. Protection factors are relevant only as long as the sunscreen is applied liberally and isn’t washed away by sweat, water or your towel. SLIDESMANIA.COM SLIDESMANIA.COM Tanning Lotion Is the same as sunscreen? It's a common error ➔ suntan lotions are not sunscreen Suntan lotions are made to speed up the tanning process, rather than protect the skin. You can still get a tan while using sunscreen, but through a slower (and much safer) process. Fun fact: sunscreens with an SPF of 15 or less are often also considered suntan lotions.
