Analogue Electronics Lecture 02 The Operational Amplifier (Op Amp) Dr. Ibrahim Salah Ibrahim Control and Computer Eng. Dept. Faculty of Engineering Almaaqal University References [Razavi, 2013] and [Alexander-Sadiku, 2015] 1 Inverting -Op Amp ❑ Example of Designing inverting Op Amp Design an inverting op-amp circuit for which the gain is −5 V/V and the total resistance used is 120 kΩ. Solution : 2 inverting Op Amp ❑ Another Example of Designing inverting Op Amp Design an inverting op-amp circuit for which the gain is −9 V/V and the total resistance used is 100 kΩ. Solution : Left as an exercise 3 Noninverting Amplifier Another important application of the op amp is the noninverting amplifier shown in Fig.5.16 A noninverting amplifier is an op amp circuit designed to provide a positive voltage gain. Application of KCL at the inverting terminal gives 4 Noninverting Amplifier 5 Example Calculate the output voltage from the circuit of Fig. 4 for an input of 120 mV. Fig. 4 6 Example For the op amp shown below, calculate the output voltage vo. Solution : 7 8 ❑Difference amplifier is a device that amplifies the difference between two inputs but rejects any signals common to the two inputs. R2 (1 + R1 / R2 ) R2 R2 R3 vo = v2 − v1  vo = v2 − v1 , if = =1 R1 (1 + R3 / R4 ) R1 R1 R4 9 Example 10 11 Example a. For the circuit of Fig. 24a, calculate IL. b. b. For the circuit of Fig. 24b, calculate Vo. 12 Cascaded Op Amp It is a head-to-tail arrangement of two or more op amp circuits such that the output to one is the input of the next. 13 Example Cascaded Op Amp Find vo and io in the circuit shown below. 14 Cascaded Op Amp Exercise If v1 = 1V and v2 = 2V, find vo in the op amp circuit shown below. 15 16 Any question ? 17 Home work(problem 1) Find vo and io in the op amp circuit shown in Fig. 18 Problem 2 19 Problem 3 20
