And, because of its far-reaching implications, General AI is a key focus of ongoing research and debate in AI ethics, law, and governance. **Super AI**, also referred to as ASI, is a hypothetical level of AI that surpasses human intelligence in all areas. As imagined by fantastical science fiction stories, ASI is AI, such as HAL from 2001: Space Odyssey and Skynet from The Terminator. Some consider the development of such advanced AI the ultimate goal of AI research, while others view it with caution due to its potential implications. ### AI Functionalities (How It Operates) **Functionalities** describe the **way an AI system functions or behaves**, based on the complexity of its operation and interaction with the environment. There are four main categories: 1. **Reactive Machines**: These are the simplest form of AI. **Reactive AI** systems respond to specific inputs with predefined outputs. They do not have memory or the ability to use past experiences to influence future decisions. For instance, **IBM\'s Deep Blue** chess-playing computer is a reactive machine---capable of evaluating the chessboard's current state but not learning from previous games. 2. **Limited Memory AI**: These AI systems can learn from past experiences to a limited extent.
