KIN 260 – Human Anatomy Lab 5 – Spinal Cord & Brain Learning Outcomes BACKGROUND READING  Textbook – Chapters 13-14  Lecture Material – Lectures 17 & 19 AVAILABLE ANATOMICAL MODELS IN THE LAB  Brain  Head (medial section)  Spinal cord (transverse section) LEARNING OUTCOMES 1) Be able to identify and name the following regions/structures of the brain.  Cerebrum  Midbrain  Cerebellum  Pons  Thalamus  Medulla oblongata  Hypothalamus  Corpus callosum 2) Be able to describe the major functions of the brain regions listed in Learning Outcome 1. 3) Be able to identify and name the four lobes of the cerebrum. 4) Be able to describe the major functional areas located in each of the cerebral lobes and where the following sensations are perceived.  Somatic sensations  Auditory sensations  Visual sensations  Olfactory (smell) sensations 5) Be able to identify and name the following regions/structures of the spinal cord/nerve.  Anterior (ventral) horn  Anterior (ventral) root  Posterior (dorsal) horn  Posterior (dorsal) root  Lateral horn  Posterior (dorsal) root ganglion 6) Be able to describe whether the cell bodies/axons that are located in each of the regions/structures listed in Learning Outcome 5 are sensory, somatic motor, and/or autonomic motor.
