Rosenbaum basic Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics: An Integrated Textbook and Computer Introduction *“Pharmaco” comes from the Greek word for “drug” pharmackon, and “kinetics” comes from the Greek word for “moving” kinetikos. *Pharmacokinetics (PK) is the study of drug movement into, around, and out of the body. It involves the study of drug absorption, distribution and elimination (metabolism and excretion (ADME). It is concerned with the driving forces for these process and the rate at which they occur. * Also, pharmacokinetics is the study of the time course of drug concentrations in body compartments. Dr/Omnia Sarhan 2 Introduction I- Logarithm The logarithm of a number is the exponent or power to which a given base number must be raised to equal that number. Thus, the logarithm of Y to the base, b, equals X, or log b (Y) = X. The logarithm of 0 and all negative numbers is undefined or nonexistent. The logarithm of 1 is 0 and of numbers
