# International Humanitarian Law This document outlines different types of international humanitarian law. ## Geneva Conventions * **The Second Geneva Convention:** Protection of wounded, sick, and shipwrecked at sea. * **The Third Geneva Convention:** Treatment of prisoners of war. * **The Fourth Geneva Convention:** Protection of civilians in times of war. ## Hague-Type Law * Provides rules regarding the conduct of hostilities, specifically focusing on means and methods of combat. * **Conduct of combat** * **Concept of occupation** * **Concept of neutrality** ## The Law Comprises: * **The Hague Conventions of 1899 and 1907 (Land and sea):** Mostly replaced and completed by the Hague Conventions of 1907. * **The Rules of air warfare (1923):** Drafted at the Hague. * **Treaties related to specific weapons:** Explosive projectiles, expanding bullets, poison and poisonous weapons, gases, bacteriological weapons, non-detectable fragments, booby-traps, mines, and other devices. ## Mixed-Type Law * A combination of Hague-type and Geneva-type provisions. * **Hague Conventions for the protection of cultural property (1954):** Focuses on cultural property. * **Additional Protocols to the Geneva Conventions (1949):** * **Protocol I:** Relates to international armed conflicts. * **Protocol II:** Concerns non-international armed conflicts.
