It is an independent , non- governmental international organization that develops and publishes standers to ensure quality, safety, efficiency and consistency in products , services and systems actoss a wide range of industries. Key Point 1) Purpose- About ISO To facilitate international trade by establishing standers that ensure products and services are safe , reliable and of good quality To promote compatibility and interoperability between systems. 2) Standers- ISO stander cover a broad array of field, including technology manufacturing, healthcare, and the environment. Example:- ISO 9001 – Quality Management System. ISO 14001:- Environmental Management Systems. ISO 27001:- Information Security Management. 3) Membership- ISO has members from 168 countries with one member per country representing their national standards organization. 4) Headquarters- The Organization is based in Geneva, Switzerland. 5) Origin of the Name- The name “ISO” is derived from the greek word ISOS, meaning “equal”, to avoid translation issues it isn’t a acrongm ).
