RIVERSIDE FIRE AUTHORITY FIELD OPERATING GUIDELINES INVESTIGATION MODE PROCEDURES The Investigation Mode is used when the extent of an incident cannot be determined by the first-arriving unit. Crews should not be drawn into a sense of compliancy and approach the incident without a basic preparedness for what may be found upon further investigation. CREW EQUIPMENT: Crews should conduct their investigation in the following manner with the listed equipment:  Full PPE with SCBA mask in stand-by mode  Portable Radio  Set of Irons  Thermal Imaging Camera (TIC)  6 foot Pike Pole  2.5 Gallon Pressurized Water Extinguisher With a full complement of PPE and a few basic tools, you and your crew will be prepared to adequately work in an investigation-mode situation and identify any fire problem. UPDATES: Be sure to make regular radio updates on the status of the investigation and any new information that is noted. INCOMING UNITS: Upon receiving a report from first-arriving companies of nothing visible on arrival, incoming units should consider possibly slowing down their response and should make plans for staging upon arrival.
