NATURE OF GLOBALIZATION TOPICS: Globalization and Its Effects on World Politics Globalization and Its Effects on Economics Globalization of Culture and Communication Various Forms of Connectivity Brought about by Globalization Expansion and Stretching of Social Relations 3 GLOBALIZATION AND ITS EFFECTS TO WORLD POLITICS INTERDEPENDENCE AND COOPERATION Economic Interdependence: Countries are more economically intertwined through trade, investment, and multinational corporations. This economic interdependence encourages political cooperation to ensure stable economic relations. International Organizations: Institutions like the United Nations (UN), World Trade Organization (WTO), and International Monetary Fund (IMF) facilitate cooperation on global issues such as trade, security, and development. 5 POLICY DIFFUSION AND STANDARDIZATION Policy Diffusion: Globalization promotes the spread of policies and practices from one country to another. Examples include environmental regulations, economic policies, and human rights standards. Standardization: Efforts to create global standards (e.g., in trade, human rights, and environmental protection) can lead to harmonized policies but also to conflicts over whose standards to adopt. 6 POWER DYNAMICS AND GEOPOLITICS Shift in Power: Economic globalization has led to the rise of new powers (e.g., China, India) and a shift in geopolitical influence. Traditional Western dominance is increasingly challenged. Multipolarity: The world is moving towards a multipolar system with multiple influential states and regional powers, altering the dynamics of international relations. 7 TECHNOLOGY AND COMMUNICATION Information Flow: Advances in communication technology facilitate the rapid spread of information, ideas, and cultural practices, influencing public opinion and political movements globally. Cybersecurity: The global nature of the internet creates new security challenges, requiring international cooperation to address cyber threats and protect digital infrastructure. 8 NON-STATE ACTORS Influence of NGOs: Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) play a significant role in international politics, advocating for various causes and influencing policy decisions. Corporations and Markets: Multinational corporations wield significant power, often influencing political decisions and policies through lobbying and economic leverage. 9 HUMAN RIGHTS AND SOCIAL MOVEMENTS Human Rights Advocacy: Globalization has amplified the reach of human rights movements, leading to greater international scrutiny of human rights abuses and the promotion of universal human rights standards. Social Movements: Movements such as environmental activism, feminism, and racial equality gain global momentum through interconnected networks and solidarity actions across borders. 10 THANK YOU
