BEST PRACTICE INJECTION SAFETY CONTINUED 14/10/24 K LOOTAWAN OBJECTIVES Define the term best practice Evaluate best practice for injection safety Define the term adverse event Describe adverse events associated with injections BEST PRACTICE Professional procedures that are accepted as being correct or being most effective (Oxford dictionary) a procedure that has been shown by research and experience to produce optimal results and that is established or proposed as a standard suitable for widespread adoption (Mariam- Webster dictionary) Best practice associated activities for injection The WHO (World Health Organization)has outlined seven (7) best practice steps for health care workers to make all safety injections safe. The seven Steps 1. Clean workspace 2. Hand hygiene 3. Sterile and new syringe and needle, with re-use prevention and/or injury protection feature whenever possible. 4. Sterile vial of medication and diluent 5. Skin disinfection. 6. Appropriate collection of sharps 7.
