An examination must be passed in order to obtain the qualification “Certified Inspector of Petroleum” which will be comprised of a sub- set of 76 of the questions on this document (worth 1 point each). The examination will also include 8 unpublished scenario-based multiple- choice questions (worth 3 points each) representing real-life scenarios likely to be encountered when working in the field. The pass level is 75%. Candidates must have completed a minimum of 6 months working as a petroleum inspector and a specified programme of field and classroom training. This is detailed in the TIC Council Petroleum Inspector Training Requirements List and must be fully documented in the employer’s internal training records. The Petroleum Inspector Certification Programme is an international programme and the qualification is international and transferable. The guidelines governing the Petroleum Inspector Certification Programme are determined by the TIC Council Petroleum and Petrochemical Committee. The programme has been approved by US Customs and by Energy Institute committee representatives from a number of major oil companies and is recognised as key indicator of an inspector’s competence.
