# Religious Terms Here is a list of religious terms and their definitions: | Term | Definition | | -------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | Agnostic | A person who doubts that humankind can know the existence of a possible god and the possible existence of anything beyond this life. | | Atheist | One who hold that NO god exists. | | Credo | A philosophy or a set of beliefs. | | Cultural Restriction | The inability or limitation of practising one's cultural beliefs or practices due to prejudice, discrimination and intolerance. | | Devil | The supreme spirit of evil in Jewish and Christian belief. | | Discrimination | The act or practice of making or showing a difference in treatment based on prejudice. | | Ethics | A system of morals; rules for human conduct. | | Evolutionary | A person who believes that evolution explains the origin of species. | | Faith | Believing without proof; trust; belief in God, religion, or spiritual things; what is believed; a particular religion. | | Humanist | An adherent (believer) of humanism - an outlook or system of thought that views humankind, rather than spirituality or religion, as the source of all value or meaning. | | Multiculturalism | A policy supporting or promoting the existence of a number of distinct cultural groups side by side within a country, province, etc. | | Neanderthal | An early form of human being who lived in Europe during the Ice Age. | | Pagan | A person holding religious beliefs other than those of any of the other main religions of the world. In the past, this term was used by Christians to describe non-Christian faiths. | | Prejudice | An opinion or judgment based on irrelevant considerations or inadequate knowledge; unreasonable hostility toward a particular person, group, race, nation, etc. | | Religion | Belief in or worship of God or gods; meaning "to bind", refers to how a religious group or community "bound itself to something that was worthy of reverence or respect. | | Religious | Devoted to religion. | | Religious Impulse | The universal urge to believe in something beyond ourselves. | | Religious Pluralism | A positive attitude toward the existence of many faiths in one society. | | Rites of Passage | One of a number of ceremonies marking the transition of an individual from one status or stage to another; any special act or event in a person's life regarded as having great significance. | | Ritual | A form or system if rites; a prescribed religious procedure or performance. | | Sacred | Connected with religion. | | Secular | Concerned with or belonging to the material world; non-religious. | | Soul | The spiritual or immortal part of a human being or an animal. | | Spiritual | Concerned with sacred or religious things and related to the human spirit or soul. | | Symbol | Something that, or someone who stands for or represents something else, especially an idea, quality, condition, or other abstraction. | | Theology | The study of religion, especially religions with a belief in God. | | Tolerance | A willingness to be tolerant and respectful toward people whose opinions or ways differ from one's own. | | Tradition | The body of beliefs, opinions, customs, etc. handed down from one generation to another; an established belief, custom, or practice. | | Worship | Great honour and respect paid to a deity; religious ceremonies in which one pays such respect; to take part in a religious act, rite, or service. |
