Hi I am Natsu! I have a picture for you to observe. What will happen to the temperature of the mug and spoon if hot water is poured? What will happen to the temperature of the water if fire is ignited? What will happen to the hand if it is place near a fire? What factor is present in those 3 pictures? Clue: Starts with letter “H” and it is composed of 4 letters. That’s right! It is heat! Today, we will talk about heat transfer. But, what is heat? Heat is an energy that is transferred from one object to another as a result of a difference in temperature. What instrument measures heat? Clue: starts with letter “t” and it is composed of 11 letters. It is thermometer Thermometer is an instrument or device that measures temperature. What is temperature? Temperature is the degree of hotness or coldness of an object. If an object is hot its particles are moving fast. If an object is cold its particles are moving slow. Try to compare the two: 1. Which moves fastest 2. Which moves slowest? How is heat transfer from one object to another? Heat Transfer Conduction Convection Radiation Conduction Is the primary mode of heat transfer in solids. Conduction In order to transfer heat, there must be a direct contact between two objects. Example: Holding the handle of the pan by your hands. Example: Ironing your clothes. Example: Heating charcoals using electric coil stove. Convection Is heat transfer by the movement of particles of fluid (liquid or gas). Example: Boiling hot water Example: Land Breeze and Sea Breeze Example: Using a hair dryer Radiation Is heat transfer by electromagnetic waves, with or without a material or medium. Example: Warming your hands using fire. Example: Using a microwave to heat a food Example: Sunbathing, radiation from the sun can cause sun burn. Let’s check your understanding What are the process of heat transfer? What are conduction, convection, radiation? What are difference between conduction convection? What are difference between conduction convection? What are difference between conduction radiation? Give an example of conduction Give an example of convection Give an example of radiation Thank you for your cooperation.
