Muscle Dystrophy Dystrophy Muscle Dystrophy Muscle Dystrophy Muscle Dystrophy What is muscular dystrophy Muscular dystrophies are a genetically and clinically heterogeneous group of rare neuromuscular diseases that cause progressive weakness and breakdown of skeletal muscles over time. BC byboth parents mutation esheMDmutation, egenetic is Causes by a parent, e wn that as is d from one l dominant ation to the hrough X osomes A B C -Most cases are by -When a mutation -When both parents gene mutations that causes MD is have the mutation, that effect muscle inherited by a parent, or the genetic proteins this is known as change that is Autosomal Dominant passed from one generation to the next through X chromosomes - Specific symptoms begin at different ages and in different muscle groups - Main sign of MD is progressive muscle weakness - Frequent falls - Difficulty rising from a lying position and or sitting position - Trouble running and jumping - Muscle pain - Delayed growth - Learning disability's - Walking on there toes Prognosis The prognosis is typically poor effected patients, patients are often wheelchair dependent by the age of 12, death occurs because of reparatory or cardiac Treatment Treatment Treatment options include medications, physical therapy, occupational therapy, surgical procedures. Possible disabilities Scoliosis Learning disabilities Enlarged calves Difficulty rising from the floor Facial paresis Frequent falls Leg pain Cognitive impairment Swallowing problems NEW SKILLS! I learned how to morph slides to make the objects fade I also learnt how to add in 3D objects Another thing that I did was add in pictures to objects The last thing I did was add in a stock video that makes the objects move in the video Facts 1. Doctors test patients by blood test and muscle biopsy 2. Bradley walker and Steve Tillian mercado Yip pin Xiu all had Muscular dystrophy 3. All the different types combined effect about 16 to 25 per 100,000 4. There are a total of 12,109 deaths, heart failure contributed 20% of deaths while respiratory failure contributed 31% 5. 1 baby in every 20,00 is born with MD 6. High protein, low fat, low carbohydrates meals are recommended for people with MD 7. The various types of muscular dystrophy affect different muscles. 8. Sometimes the heart muscle or the muscles that control breathing are weak, which can be dangerous Bibliography https://www.nichd.nih.gov/health/topics/musculardys/condit ioninfo/causes#:~:text=Most%20cases%20of%20MD%20ar e,by%20an%20affected%20person%27s%20offspring. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/muscular-d ystrophy/symptoms-causes/syc-20375388 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK482346/#:~:text= The%20prognosis%20is%20typically%20poor,%2C%20aspir ation%2C%20or%20airway%20obstruction. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/muscular-d ystrophy/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20375394 https://www.merckmanuals.com/en-ca/home/quick-facts-chi
