Be awake and attentive on the job, and be particularly aware of machinery. Avoid going to work under the influence of alcohol or drugs, which can compromise your concentration, Maintain Correct Posture coordination, judgment, motor control and alertness. M A R I T I M E O C C U P A T I O N A L Maintain Correct Posture Good posture ensures that your body weight is distributed evenly across your skeletal structure, reducing the strain on your muscles and joints. The act of keeping your knees slightly bent, for instance, helps to maintain balance and ensure flexibility, reducing the risk of injuries and overall discomfort Use proper posture to protect your back while at work. If you sit at a desk, keep your shoulders and hips in line and avoid hunching over. Use correct form when lifting objects and avoid twisting and stooping. Regular breaks help you stay fresh and alert on the job. It is particularly important to take short breaks when you have a task that requires repetitive movements over a long period of time. M A R I T I M E O C C U P A T I O N A L Locate Emergency Exits ·Always know where emergency exits are located and keep the path to them clear. You should also have clear access to emergency shutoffs on machinery. Since the nature of an emergency can't be known beforehand, employers have to protect employees regardless of what may happen. They can reduce the physical effort, force, or strain required to move or lift objects or materials. Some examples of mechanical aids are trolleys, carts, pallet jacks, hoists, cranes, forklifts, conveyors, and vacuum lifters.
