GROUP 3 Culture of death is a culture that is actively fostered by powerful cultural, economic and political currents which encourage an idea of society excessively concerned with efficiency, devaluing human life and dignity, often prioritizing convenience, power, or self-interest over the sacredness of life. "God did not make death, and he Poison human society does not delight in the death of the living. For he has created all things that might exist... God created Supreme dishonor to God man for incorruption, and made him in the image of his own An insult of human eternity, but through the devil's dignity envy death entered the world, and those who belong to his party experience it" (Wis 1:13-14; 2:23- 24). Prioritizes individual autonomy and self-interest at the expense of moral truth, the common good, and the dignity of human life. Perverse freedom is equated with absolute individualism. True freedom is inherently relational, recognizing that God has entrusted us to one another. By living "as if God did not exist", man not only loses sight of the mystery of God, but also of the mystery of the world and the mystery of his own being. Man is no longer capable of posing the question of the truest meaning of his own existence, nor can he assimilate with genuine freedom these crucial moments of his own history The eclipse of the sense of God and of man inevitably leads to a practical materialism, which breeds individualism, utilitarianism and hedonism. It encourages the culture of death, creating and consolidating actual "structures of sin" which go against life. Truth and standards become lost and subjective to a mortal danger of confusion between good and evil precisely in relation to the fundamental right to life. The humanity which Paul describes in his Letter to the Romans is composed "of men who by their wickedness suppress the truth" (1:18): having denied God and believing that they can build the earthly city without him, "they became futile in their thinking" so that "their senseless minds were darkened" (1:21); "claiming to be wise, they became fools" (1:22), carrying out works deserving of death, and "they not only do them but approve those who practice them" Defense of life Growing attention is being paid to the quality of life and to ecology, scientific and medical progress, pro-life movements, and more. THE CHRISTIAN MESSAGE CONCERNING LIFE With our gaze fixed on Christ, "the Word of life" Emphasizes the centrality of Jesus Christ in understanding and living out the Gospel of life. Jesus proclaims, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life" (Jn 14:6) "The Lord is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation" (Ex 15:2): life is always a good Life is inherently good, as it is a sign of God’s presence and providence Challenges like suffering, illness, or disability do not diminish life’s value. Trusting in His strength and salvation allows believers to find strength and hope “JESUS PROVIDES CLARITY, PURPOSE, AND ULTIMATE MEANING TO HUMAN LIFE” "Whoever lives and believes in me shall never die" (Jn 11:26): the gift of eternal life Eternal life is the ultimate fulfillment of human existence. To know God and his Son is to accept the mystery of the loving communion of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit into one's own life, which even now is open to eternal life because it shares in the life of God. Marriage is a sacred institution designed by God. It involves a deep, personal union between spouses, characterized by love and mutual respect. Marriage serves both unitive and procreative purposes. Every human being, including the unborn, has an inherent dignity and right to life. It urges societies to create laws that defend the right to life and provide support for pregnant women. The role of the Church is called to be a voice for the voiceless and to advocate for the protection of all human life. It emphasizes the need for pastoral care and support for women facing difficult pregnancies. Condemnation of abortion because it is the direct killing of a human. Euthanasia is condemned as a grave moral evil. It is seen as an act that intentionally ends a human life, which is contrary to the respect for life. Advocates for compassionate care and palliative care for those who are suffering or terminally ill. Role of Medical professionals - to uphold the dignity of life and provide care that respects the natural course of life. Encourages the medical community to focus on pain management and emotional support. Euthanasia in the strict sense is understood to be an action or omission which of itself and by intention causes death, with the purpose of eliminating all suffering. "Euthanasia's terms of reference, therefore, are to be found in the intention of the will and in the methods used". Euthanasia must be distinguished from the decision to forgo so-called "aggressive medical treatment" It calls for the reduction and eventual abolition of the death penalty, emphasizing that modern society has means to protect itself without resorting to capital punishment. Sanctity of life asserts that every person has the right to life, which should be protected and respected. Condemned as a grave mortal evil Emphasizes the importance of providing compassionate care and support for those struggling with mental health issues. Encourages communities to offer help and understanding to individuals in crisis. Suicide represents a rejection of God's absolute sovereignty over life and death, as proclaimed in the prayer of the ancient sage of Israel: "You have power over life and death; you lead men down to the gates of Hades and back again" (Wis 16:13; cf. Tob 13:2). 1. Individual and Community Commitment an obligation to be at the service of life Service of Life- To be truly in service of life means to take deliberate actions, rooted in love and respect, that protect, nurture, and uphold the dignity of all human life. proclaiming and celebrating the Gospel of life Defending and supporting the vulnerable Providing practical support Fostering solidarity 2. Family as the “Sanctuary of Life” The family has a decisive responsibility. This responsibility flows from its very nature as a community of life and love, founded upon marriage, and from its mission to "guard, reveal and communicate love" THANK YOU
