**General Administrative Guidelines** -------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------- ------------- Subject: Valid Drivers License/Permit Effective Date: 10-1-2010 GAG: 1-9 Reviewed 9/29/16 Applies to: ALL KCFD PERSONNEL Supersedes: GAG 1-9 9-12-2007 Page 1 of 2 Responsible Committee: Human Resources Committee Next Review Date: 10-1-2018 -------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------- ------------- **PURPOSE:** All personnel who operate a KCFD motor vehicle must maintain a valid legal instrument from their state of residence that permits the legal operation of a motor vehicle. This GAG is not intended to supersede any other GAG, GOG, regulation or ordinance and the administration of the provisions shall not be considered discipline. **SCOPE:** These procedures apply to all KCFD personnel who have the occasion to operate a department vehicle. **GUIDELINES:** 1. Any KCFD personnel who are on duty without driving privileges, regardless of how brief the time period, shall provide notice to KCFD. 2. The notice of the loss of driving privilege shall be reported immediately, upon reporting for duty to the appropriate Battalion Chief/Manager/ADC or a Deputy Chief/Assistant to the Fire Chief. 3. When the report is given to a Battalion Chief/Manager/ADC, the report shall be forwarded to the appropriate Deputy Chief/Assistant to the Fire Chief of Department. 4. The loss of driving privilege shall be reported through the chain of command to the Assistant to the Fire Chief for Human Resources of Department. 5. If any order to drive, WOC, and/or work overtime as a driver of an emergency vehicle is given to any KCFD personnel who does not have the legal privilege to drive, they must respectfully decline the order. 6. All personnel of the KCFD who have lost their driving privilege in their state of residence shall not be allowed to work overtime or work out of class until their driving privileges have been reinstated. Holdover will be permitted and required. 7. Random computer checks with the employee's state of residence concerning the driving privilege of KCFD personnel will be conducted. The driving privilege of twenty (20) personnel will be checked each month. Since the State of Kansas requires the driver's license number, non-Missouri residents will be required to provide their driver's license number to their supervisor when requested to facilitate the random review process. 8. When the random check indicates no license, the supervisor will be notified. The supervisor will inquire, without union representation, from the employee if they have an out of state license. If the employee has an out of state license, they must furnish their license number to the supervisor. -------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------- ------------- Subject: Valid Driver's License/Permit Effective Date: 10-1-2010 GAG: 1-9 Applies to: ALL KCFD PERSONNEL Supersedes: GAG 1-9 9-12-2007 Page 2 of 2 Responsible Committee: Human Resources Committee Next Review Date: 10-1-2012 -------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------- ------------- 9.
