LABORATORY FUNCTION/ USES RIDDLE BALANCE BEAM - I am where grace and strength combine, a narrow stage for moves so fine. Gymnasts tread but dare not teeter, for balance here is their true meter. BEAKER - A scientist's friend with a flat base and wide mouth, holding reactions that sometimes head south. We use a beaker to hold a liquid. CRUCIBLE TONGS - When tubes and such are far too hot to touch with your bare skin You’ll need a pair of these to help you lift and move such things. DROPPER - I am a small device that is used to slowly and carefully transfer small amounts of a liquid. I am usually made from plastic or glass, and I have a small bulb at one end that gently pulls fluid into my slender, hollow tube. ERLENMYER FLASK- I am a glass apparatus that has a wide base and a slender opening at the top. I am often used for titration experiments, or if you can’t seem to find a beaker anywhere. I come in many sizes: 125 mL, 250 mL, and 500 Ml. EVAPORATING DISH - I am a dish made of ceramic material, which allows me to become very HOT during heating. FUNNEL - I am a piece of apparatus that is used for careful transfer of fluids. I have a wide circular mouth and a slender, hollow tube. GRADUATED CYLINDER - I am a glass found in the laboratory. I am narrow cylinder in shape, Each mark line on me represents the amount of liquid. I am also known as measuring cylinder. MORTAR AND PESTLE - We are used to grind substances and always work together to get the job done. PETRI DISH - I shelter the culture, and in labs, I'm a must; I might be quite small, but in me, you trust. PIPTTE - I am slender and long, with precision I'm used, to draw up liquids, my form is well-tuned. STIRRING ROD/ GLASS ROD - I am a glass cylinder that is used to mix and stir during an experiment. I am also used when pouring liquids. We use a glass rod to stir a liquid in a beaker. TEST TUBE - I am a glass tube with one open end that scientists use for many purposes. I am used when a beaker is too large. TEST TUBE RACK - I am used to hold a hot glass tube – that’s how I got my name! I take the heat so that your fingers don’t have to. THERMOMETER - In the lab I hang, ready to drop, when temperatures rise, I measure the top. WATCH GLASS - I am made of glass and am round and shallow. One side of me is concave while the other side is convex. WIRE GAUZE - I am made of wire that has lots of little holes and a ceramic fibre centre. I sit upon a clamp to support glassware as it is being heated. I also function to spread the heat of the flame from the Bunsen Burner.
