Inviscid Flow** ![](media/image35.jpg) **Internal Vs. External Flow** Flow of fluids is classified as external or internal flow fluid flows in confined space or over the surface. ![](media/image37.jpg) **Compressible Vs. Incompressible Flow** Flow is classified as compressible or incompressible variation of density during flow. **Fluid is incompressible when:** the density remains nearly constant throughout. Volume of every portion of fluid remains unchanged over the course of its motion. **Gases are highly compressible.** **Laminar Vs. Turbulent Flow** ![](media/image39.png)Flow is classified as Laminar, transitional, or Turbulent flow depending on their Reynolds number (Re). ---------------------------------------- **Is it a Laminar or Turbulent flow?** ---------------------------------------- **Natural Vs. Forced Flow** **Forced Flow** -- when a fluid forced to flow over a surface of pipe by means of external flow such as pump or fan. **Natural Flow** -- due to natural means such as buoyancy effect which manifests itself as the rise of warmer (lighter fluid) and fall of cooler (denser).- Example: Mantle's convection current, hot air balloon, etc. **Steady Vs. Unsteady Flow** **Uniform Vs. Non-Uniform Flow** **Uniform Flow Non-uniform Flow** **Dimensions** -The quantitative description requires both a number and a standard by which various quantities can be compared. ![](media/image44.jpg) ![](media/image46.jpg)**DIMENSIONALLY HOMOGENEOUS** **SYSTEMS OF UNITS** **1. International System** ![A table with numbers and symbols Description automatically generated](media/image48.jpg) **2. English Engineering System (EE System)** ![](media/image50.jpg)
