# Using Imagery Imagery is a literary device that appeals to the reader's senses. It uses words and phrases to vividly describe the content of the text. Sensory details (sight, hearing, smell, touch, and taste) make a written piece more powerful, allowing the reader to create a clear mental picture or imagination of the scene or subject. Without sensory details, writing is dull and plain.
