7 FOLLOW-UP Trusting Christ is a beginning point in a person's life. Once lead a person to the Lord, you have an even greater responsibility to him than before he got saved. Ithought my responsibilities ended when I brought aperson to Christ. What does John 3:3 call salvation? According to 2 Corinthians 5:17, when a person comes to Christ, he is what? What does this mean? It means that the new Christian is a spiritual baby. You, as the witness, have helped bring a new baby into God's kingdom. That's why you have such a responsibility to that person. Afather's and mother's responsibility to their child increases at birth. They don't desert the child to nature. Instead, they teach and nourish the child toadulthood. You have thesame responsibility toa person who has just been born again. How doI train andnourish a new Christian? The new believer needs to be strengthened by four things. But make sure he understands that these things will not save him-he is already saved--and they will not keep him saved, since God will do that whether the Christian does these four things or not. These four things will only make him astronger believer. HE SHOULD READ GOD'S WORD EVERY DAY The Bible is the Christian's food. Just as all of us-especially young people-need food for strength, the new Christian must eat spiritual food daily if he is to be a strong Christian. 60 How do the following verses compare the Bible to food? 1. 1Peter 2:2 2. Hebrews 5:12-14 3. Psalm 119:103 4. Isaiah 55:10-11 I believe that the Gospel of John is the best book to have a new born Christian read. This gospel magnifies the deity of Christ and further explains His simple plan of salvation. How much shoulda new Christian read each day Only as much as he can digest. By that we mean only as much as he can understand and think about that day. Many Christians try to read toomuch each day, and about three-fourths of what they read is lost, because they either don't understand it, they lose their concentration,or they forget it. Asmall portion, well-digested, sfar better than a large portion quickly forgotten. Are there other reasons Christians need to read the Word daily? According to the following verses, what will the Word, studied daily, do in a person's life? 1. Jeremiah 15:16 2. Psalm 119:9, 11 61 3. 2 Timothy 2:15 4. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 Help the new believer develop a simple, digestible plan for daily Bible reading. Encourage him to ask questions when he finds passages that he does not understand. HE SHOULD PRAY EVERY DAY Ephesians 6:18 underlines the importance of prayer. Note the following from this forceful verse: 1. When should we pray? 2. In whom should we pray? 3. For whom should we pray? 4. With what quality should we pray? Where this verse says we are to watch or be alert, Paul used the Greek word agrupneó, which literally means "to be sleepless" Paul understood the natural laziness of mankind, especially regarding our need for prayer. How seldom we pray things through! Often we approach the point of a great blessing in prayer, and then we get drowsy or lose our concentration and quit. Why should a Christian spend so much time praying? 62 Because There Is a Devil Ephesians 6:12 tells us that we have enemies against whom we must struggle. According to this verse, who are these enemies? Theverses that follow show how to have victory over this enemy. Name the pieces of armnor we are to wear for victory: Paul then concludes with the verse we first read (18). If we do not have ameaningful prayer life, we will spend our days totally defeated by Satan. Because Prayer Is God's Way to Provide for Us Why do people lack things in their lives, according to James 4:2? These words contain the reason for the spiritual poverty and powerlessness of most Christians--neglect of prayer. Prayer Is the Most Important Part of Christ's Present Ministry What is Christ presently doing, according to Hebrews 7:25? Here we see why Christ lives in heaven. Intercession means to plead on our behalf when we pray. 63 Romans 8:34, why is Christ in heaven? According to us WIth a Sense of the importance os Nothing should so impress much and constantly in prayer, as being praying at all times, of today the primary occupation of our is the thought that prayer risen Lord. Means of Obtaining Mercy and Grace Prayer Is the about this? What does Hebrews4:16 say Prayer Is the Means of Freecdom from Worry and Care What does Philippians 4:6-7 promise the praying Christian? Should I show the person how to pray? You probably won't have time to go into over the days and weeks following, you cangreat detail at first, but els of prayer from the share with him mod new believer should knowScripture, including the Lord's Prayer. What did the Samaritan BIRTHEVERY woman do DAT trusting Christ (John immediately alte 4:25-30)? 64 This is the natural desire of every newborn Christian. Nothing will so strengthen him as telling his loved ones and friends what Christ has done for him. HE SHOULD SEEK BAPTISM, JOIN AGOSPEL-BELIEVING CHURCH,AND ATTEND THE CHURCH FAITHFULLY What did Peter command the new Christians to do in Acts 10:44-48? What had they done, and what had already happened to them before they were baptized? Its important that new believers understand that baptism doesn't save them. It is a public sign to others that they have trusted Christ. What does the Bible say about church attendance in Hebrews 10:25? The new Christian needs the fellowship of older Christians, people who can share with him what they learned from the Word through the years. God did not intend the Christian to go through life alone. He gave us His Word and the counsel of other believers to help us grow closer toHim. Complete Thís Section Without Looking Back at the Lesson 1.
