welcome 🞭 What is the first things you will hear in the morning? Then how do you respond? SUBJECT DESCRIPTION-PHYSICAL SCIENCE 2 🞭 This course focuses on the application of scientific knowledge and the practical solution of the problems in the physical environment. 🞭 It is designed to bridge the gap between theoretical science and daily living. Welcome Everyone To Our DISASTER RISK REDUCTION MANAGEMENT CLASS Disaster Preparedness Republic Act No. 10121 otherwise known as PDRRM ACT of 2010 An Act Strengthening the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management System, Providing for the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Framework, Institutionalizing the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Plan, Appropriating Funds Therefore, and for Other Purposes 7 PHILIPPINE RISK PROFILE 🞭 Out of 173 countries assessed for their exposure to hazards, the Philippines placed third. WHY? DISASTERS AND THE BIBLE OBJECTIVES: 🞭To develop a biblical perspective on disasters from various passages in the Old and New Testament. 🞭To learn from God’s people prepared for or responded to disasters in the Bible. OBJECTIVES: 🞭To explore causes of disaster – act of God or fault of man? 🞭To give examples of God using disaster to fulfil His bigger plans. WHAT IS A DISASTER AND NAME THEM? 🞭 By the way, Hazards and Disasters are closely related but they are not the same. 🞭 HAZARD The term hazard describes a danger situation or an incoming extreme natural or ‘man- made’ event. 🞭 DISASTER A disaster occurs when a hazard affects people who are in a vulnerable situation and who are unable to cope with its impact. EXTREME NATURAL MAN - MADE 🞭 Earthquakes, Tsunamis 🞭 Conflict or War 🞭 Floods, Volcanic 🞭 Inter- eruptions community 🞭 Droughts, Flash floods violence 🞭 Landslides, Tornados 🞭 Industrial 🞭 Cyclones, Hurricanes accidents 🞭 Fire 🞭 Wild Fires, Sink Hole 🞭 Displacement 🞭 Typhoons 🞭 Civil strife CAN YOU NAME THEM? BIBLE BRAINSTORM: 🞭Who can site examples of biblical disasters in the Old Testament & New Testament? LET’S DIVIDE INTO GROUPS 🞭 Group task on Bible passages A. Genesis 6:5-8, Gen.7:20-23 and Gen.9:12-15 The story of Noah. B. Genesis 41: 28-40 Joseph in Egypt. C. Neh. 2:13-18, Neh.3:1-3 and Neh.6:15- 16 Nehemiah rebuilds the Wall. D. Acts 11: 25-30 From Antioch to Jerusalem, with love. E. Acts 16: 22-34 Paul and Silas in Philippi. THEN ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS: 1. What type of disaster is described in this Bible passage? 2. In this Scripture, what is written about the cause of this disaster? 3. What actions were taken by God’s people to prepare for or respond to the disaster? What were the results? 4. How did God use the situation to fulfil His bigger, long-term plans for the people on earth? (e.g. to prepare for Jesus, or to extend His Kingdom?) IN CONCLUSION 🞭 We can be part of God’s plan when we show love and have compassion for disaster survivors. We should not equate today’s disasters with God’s punishment. We may have opportunities to share the Gospel after a disaster, but aid should always be unconditional. IN CONCLUSION 🞭 Many disasters in the Old Testament were linked with God’s judgement, but not all of them. In the New Testament, there was a popular belief that disasters (and disabilities) were punishments for sin. However, Jesus did not link together the collapse of the Tower and sin. The people who died were sinners – but everyone else in Jerusalem was equally guilty of sin. LUKE 13:1-5 🞭 At that time, some people who were there told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices. (2) He asked them, "Do you think that these Galileans were more sinful than all the other Galileans because they suffered like this? (3) Absolutely not, I tell you! But if you don't repent, then you, too, will all die. (4) What about those eighteen people who were killed when the tower at Siloam fell on them? Do you think they were worse offenders than all the other people living in Jerusalem? (5) Absolutely not, I tell you! But if you don't repent, then you, too, will all die." CONCLUSION 🞭 Other disasters were used by New Testament Christians to show compassion and give practical help to those in need. Paul and Silas were invited to share the Gospel in the after-math of the earthquake in Philippi; they grasped the opportunity! More commonly, the giving of help in times of need creates open hearts for the Gospel later on. THANK Presented by:YOU! SIR API JR.rr
