Gradescope will not be used. Closed-book; do not turn on your laptop and cell phone. What to bring: 3 formula sheets (double-sided), calculator, scratch papers (not to be collected). Some students used chatGPT in our midterm exams, which should be considered violation of honor code and will not be tolerated. This is the main reason for us to change the exam format from using Gradescope to using the hard copy of exam papers. 12/3/2024 Review for the Final Exam 3 Problem-oriented review -- examples in lecture notes – homework problems – previous review problems and exam problems -- classify problems and focus on methods/approaches taught in each class 12/3/2024 Review for the Final Exam 4 Office hours (Zoom) Wednesday 12/4, 8 – 9:30 pm Tuesday 12/10, 8 – 9:00 pm Wednesday 12/11, 8 – 9:00 pm 12/3/2024 Review for the Final Exam 5 What have we learned in STOR 155? Correlation: definition and properties Least-Squares Regression: – Find the regression equation, prediction and interpretation, the meaning of R2 Regression diagnostics: – Residuals, outliers, influential observations, lurking variables (confounding) 12/3/2024 Review for the Final Exam 8 Probability Sample spaces, events, union, intersection, complement, disjoint events, tree diagram, Venn diagram Axioms and properties of probability Addition rule: P(A  B) = P(A) + P(B) - P(A  B) Division rule (conditional probability): P(A | B) = P(A  B) / P(B) Multiplication rule: P(A  B) = P(A | B) P(B) = P(B | A) P(A) Independence: P(A  B) = P(A) P(B) Rules for expected values & variances 12/3/2024 Review for the Final Exam 9 Probability (continued) Binomial distribution – Sampling distribution for counts and proportions – mean, standard deviation – Normal approximation Sampling distribution of X  X2 1.  X =  X ;  X2 = n 2. (i) If X is normal, X is normal. (ii) If X is nonnormal, X is approx. normal for large samples. 12/3/2024 Review for the Final Exam 10 Road map for CI and HT 1-sample or 2-samples ? 1-sample: mean or proportion ? 2-samples: mean difference or proportion difference ? Which Ha 1-sided (upper tail or lower tail) or 2-sided ? z-table or t-table ? How to use P-value ? What conclusion to draw in HT ? Margin of error in CI ? 12/3/2024 Review for the Final Exam 11
