**Field Hockey Is Changing: Paris 2024, the Last Games with Water-Based Fields** Field hockey is changing. In Paris 2024, water-based fields will be used for the last time. The sport reduced playing time and might reduce the number of players. Soon, there will be new fields that do not need water and will not affect players\' performance. Athletes will get used to these fields during tests this year and next year. The International Hockey Federation confirmed that Paris 2024 will be the last Olympic tournament with water-based fields after 48 years. Jon Wyatt, The Sports And Development Director, said they made great progress in new types of turf that do not affect players\' performance. The first test was in June 2022 in Lausanne, Switzerland. The tests will continue in 2023 and will have their first major event at the Women\'s Hockey World Cup 5s in Muscat, Oman, in January 2024, seven months before Paris 2024. This change has been a major project since 2018. Wyatt also said that in Tokyo 2020, 40% less water was used than in Rio 2016. Reducing water use is an important goal. This new turf is not the first major change. Since 2014, games are played in four quarters of 15 minutes, instead of two halves of 35 minutes. Also, at the Youth Olympic Games, hockey 5s is played with 10-minute halves and fewer players. Now, the possibility of including Hockey 7s in the Olympic Games is being reviewed. **Nouns** - Field hockey - Games - Fields - Sport - Playing time - Number - Players - Water - Performance - Athletes - Tests - Year - Olympic tournament - Years - Progress - Turf - Players - Test - Event - Months - Change - Project - Goal - Change - Games - Quarters - Minutes - Halves - Youth Olympic Games - Hockey 5s - Minutes - Halves - Players - Possibility - Hockey 7s - Olympic Games **Verbs** - Continues - Is changing - Will be used - Has reduced - Might reduce - Will be - Do not need - Will not affect - Will get used - Confirmed - Said - Have made - Affect - Was - Will continue - Will have - Has been - Said - Was used - Is - Is - Are played - Is played - Is being reviewed
