Farm Safety Farm safety is vital on every farm, and is the farmer's job to ensure it is kept at a high standard. The top causes of accidents on the farm are. Kicks, bites, or diseases from animals. Falls from high places. Crushes from farm vehicles Falling objects Slurry incidents. Exposure to chemicals Back injuries Hearing loss from loud equipment 10% of farm fatalities are children. Children should be supervised at all times on a farm. All chemicals should be in a locked store away from children. Farmers should have a risk assessment plan this involves identifying risks on the farm. Having a safe behaviour must go with the risk assessment. Slurry points should be marked, livestock handling should be done with care, machinery should be turned of if not in operation. Older farmers are also at risk due to their capabilities to be limited. Strength, mobility, flexibility, eyesight, and hearing all factor into this. Most accidents to older farmers are caused by livestock or moving machinery this is due to mobility issues. Getting older does not mean they have to retire it means extra care should be taken when carrying out tasks. Farm signage should be placed around the farm to highlight hazards.
