Kahoot Introduction Mustafa Macbeth: Macbeth is a Scottish general in Shakespeare's play Macbeth. He finds three witches who say that he will be king. Because of ambition and Lady Macbeth, he kills King Duncan to take the throne. His ambition causes him paranoia, more murders, and isolation. Macbeth is finally killed by Macduff, which causes his tragic downfall. Darth Vader: Darth Vader was originally Anakin Skywalker, a Jedi Knight. He falls to the Dark Side because of Emperor Palpatine, and he is driven by his desire to save his wife, Padmé. He transforms into Darth Vader and becomes an enforcer of the Galactic Empire. Even with all his villainous actions, he redeems himself by saving his son, Luke Skywalker, and destroying the Emperor. Trait One - Ambitious Momin Macbeth Ambition: Wants to become king, driven by the witches’ prophecy and Lady Macbeth. Evidence: ○ “I have no spur to prick the sides of my intent, but only / Vaulting ambition, which o’erleaps itself” (Act 1, Scene 7). Result: Gets the throne but loses his humanity, his relationships, and eventually his life. Darth Vader Ambition: Seeks ultimate power to save Padmé and control the galaxy. Evidence: ○ “I can overthrow him, and together you and I can rule the galaxy” (Episode III). Result: Becomes powerful but loses Padmé, his moral compass, and his connection to his former self. Similarities: Both characters are consumed by ambition and sacrifice everything to achieve their goals. Their ambition leads to their downfalls. Differences: Macbeth’s ambition is triggered by the prophecies, which is an external force, while Vader’s ambition is triggered by his internal fears and emotions. Trait Two - Remorseful Momin Macbeth Remorse: Feels guilt after killing Duncan. Evidence: ○ “Will all great Neptune’s ocean wash this blood / Clean from my hand? No” (Act 2, Scene 2). ○ He feels like nothing can erase the guilt of what he’s done. Result: His guilt makes him paranoid and leads him to kill more people to stay in power. Darth Vader Remorse: Regrets what he did, especially the harm he caused to his loved ones. Evidence: ○ “It is too late for me, son.” (Episode VI): This shows he feels bad about his choices but thinks it’s too late to change. ○ In the end, his regret leads him to save Luke and destroy the Emperor. Result: His remorse helps him to redeem himself and find peace before he dies. Comparison Similarities: ○ Both characters feel sorry for the wrong things they’ve done. ○ Their guilt has a big effect on their decisions and actions. Differences: ○ Macbeth’s guilt makes him worse—he becomes paranoid and violent. ○ Vader’s guilt pushes him to do something good and make up for his past. Trait Three - Corrupted by Power Momin Macbeth Corruption: After becoming king, Macbeth is changed by power. He becomes cruel, killing anyone that he thinks is a threat. Evidence: ○ “O, full of scorpions is my mind, dear wife!” (Act 3, Scene 2). ○ This shows how power has made him restless and violent. Result: He keeps killing to hold on to his power, like when he has Banquo and Macduff’s family killed, but it leads to his downfall. Darth Vader Corruption: When Darth Vader joins the dark side, he becomes powerful but loses his kindness. He does terrible things to keep his control. Evidence: ○ “You don’t know the power of the dark side. I must obey my master.” (Episode V). ○ This shows how power has taken over him, making him follow the Emperor no matter what. Result: His power makes him feared and hated, and he loses the people he loves. Comparison Similarities: ○ Both characters start out good but are changed for the worse by power. ○ They hurt others to keep their power and lose their humanity. Differences: ○ Macbeth becomes paranoid and causes his own downfall ○ Vader becomes loyal to the dark side, but he redeems himself before he dies. Different Traits Mustafa Macbeth: Bravery: At the start of the play macbeth is viewed as a brave soldier and warrior, showcasing his bravery and courage. Evidence: (Act 1, Scene 2, line 18-20) Self-Doubt: Aside from his ambitions, Macbeth experiences a lot of internal conflict and hesitation, especially before doing something that will change him, killing King Duncan. Evidence: (Act 1, scene 2, line 1-2). In this quote we see that Macbeth is hesitating, and contemplating to kill duncan. Darth Vader (Anakin): Impulsiveness: He has a very impulsive and hot-headed nature, and often he acts without thinking once about the consequences. Evidence: (Episode 3, revenge of the sith). In this quote we see Anakin's impulsive and rash decision. Loyalty: Anakin shows very strong loyalty to his friends and mentors, especially his wife Padmé, however later on, his loyalty becomes twisted because of the Dark Side.
