Written during 1460-1470 First published in July 31, 1485 by William Caxton Consists of 21 books Famous in England and France CALAMBA INSTITUTE Junior High School Department Chipeco Ave., Halang, Calamba City LITERARY BACKGROUND Sir Thomas Malory (1400-1470) - Born in England, United Kingdom -an English writer, the author of Le Morte D’ Arthur, the classic English-language chronicle of the Arthurian legend, compiled and in most cases translated from French sources -Malory wrote Le Morte D’ Arthur in an attempt to revive in the fifteenth-century the social codes of the Middle Ages. Guinevere -wife of King Arthur -long-time lover to Sir Lancelot. Their affair helped bring down the fellowship of the Round Table, after which she became an abbess.
