[EAR DISORDERS ] OTISIS MEDIA - Causes: strep pneumo, M. Cat recurrent OM - Tx: - Amoxicillin: first line. - Provided that no antibx in previous 30 days, no purulent conjunctivitis and no allergy to PCN - Amoxicillin/clavulante - For those that HAVE received antibx in prev 30 days OR has purulent conjunctivitis OR hx of AOM unresponsive to amoxicillin - IF ALLERGY TO PCN! - Cephazolin's Cefdinir, Cefuroxime, Cefpodoxime, Ceftriaxone - IF ANTIBX FAILURE - First line: amoxicillin/clavulanate, ceftriaxone 3 days - If allergy: ceftriaxone 3 days or clindamycin OTITIS EXTERNA - Causes: - Bacterial: pseudo, staph, strep - Tx: antibiotic drops - Fungal: aspergillus, candida albicans - Tx: cleansing and acidifying drops - Clotrimazole used if drops are not effective - If still ineffective oral antifungal itraconazole or fluconazole
