Environment and Society [UG/SOC/DSE/5.4] Mid-semester Assignment 3rd September 2024 MODULE 1 Answer any one of the following questions- 1- Through interviews of at least 5 informants, explore the nature of human-animal relationships in contemporary times. Some suggestions to answer this- Focus on how the relationship has changed over time? What does the change imply? Why is studying this relationship necessary? Or 2- Following Nayanika Mathur’s essay ‘The Task of the Climate Translator’, state the different interpretations of climate change used by communities. Some suggestions to answer this- Are people aware of climate change as a phenomenon? If not, how else do they attribute the changing climactic conditions? If yes, in what form? What are the terms they use? You can conduct interviews and analyse the collected data (5 interviews) in the context of the essay. YOU ARE FREE TO NOT INTERVIEW AND DO IT YOUR OWN WAY. THESE ARE JUST SUGGESTIONS. Or 3- What is Environmental Sociology? State its importance by discussing any one environmental problem and why it needs to be sociologically analysed. ---------------------------------------------- Word limit- 1200-1500 words Assignments should be submitted physically to RS by 15th November 2024.
