Cultural Failure Seeking to make the culture of others appear to be wrong. 3. Cultural Blindness Unable or refusing to accept the culture of others. 4. Cultural Pre - Competence Aware of what one doesn’t know about working in different settings. Initial levels of awareness after which a person/organization can move in positive, positive direction or they can hesitate, stop and possibly go back. 5. Cultural Competency Viewing one’s personal and organizational work as an interactive preparation in which the educator enters into different settings in a manner that is additive to cultures that are different from the educator. 6. Cultural Skill. Making the commitment to life-long learning for the purpose of being increasingly effective in serving the educational needs of cultural groups. Holding the vision of what can be and committing to assessments that serve as standards on the road to student success The first three points on the left side of the continuum focus on them as being problematic (i.e., Cultural Power, Cultural Failure, Cultural Blindness). The three points on the right side of the continuum focus on our practice (i.e., Cultural Pre - Competence, Cultural Competence, Cultural Skill). Culturally Skill: practice helps shift exchanges from the left side to the right side, not by indicting or blaming others, rather by accepting comments and help “development” the negative thinking in using the five Essential Elements as the basis for thinking and exchange of ideas. Culturally competent employees are usually more willing to see others' points of view, which improves teamwork at the workplace. Culturally synergized thinking. Bringing together thinkers from different cultural backgrounds can increase problem-solving and increase creativity, due to a mixture of views, ideas, and policies coming together. Improved Care. Sensitive cultural awareness at the workplace also improves overall communication among coworkers, since cultural competence education encourages empathy and active listening skills. An Adaptable and Harmonious Workforce. Culturally competent employees are more productive and cooperative with each other. Because of the above-mentioned open-mindedness, they are generally more adaptable to workplace changes and adjustments, which is a preferred quality in a worker. Cultural Intelligence Cultural Intelligence refers to the skill to relate and work effectively in culturally different situations. It's the capability to cross limitations and grow in multiple cultures. Importance of cultural intelligence Cultural intelligence helps develop an in-depth understanding of working styles in other cultures. A culturally intelligent workforce will demonstrate better tolerance, trust and understanding of total colleagues. Five Ways to Build Cultural Intelligence Be curious and interested in learning about other cultures. Develop an awareness of self in relation to others. Make your mind a clean account. Develop an awareness of your biases towards other cultures and traditions. Put yourself in situations with people from different cultures
