# The Reign of the Kings of Judah The history of the kings of Judah shows how following God's word is important (Deuteronomy 30:15-20). Those who follow God's word are blessed, while those who forsake it will suffer God's chastisement. ## A. Kings Who Treasured God's Word These kings treasured God's word, read it, and followed it: 1. Asa removed idols, renewed the covenant with Jehovah, and restored His worship (1 Kings 15:12; 2 Chronicles 14:2-5; 15:8-17). 2. Hezekiah removed idols, repaired the temple, and restored the priestly service (2 Kings 18:3-6; 2 Chronicles 29:1-4, 29:30:1-5, 13-16). 3. Josiah repaired the temple, led the people to covenant with Jehovah, purged Israel of idolatry and sorcery, and sought after Jehovah with all his heart (2 Kings 22:5, 11; 23:3-8, 13-15, 20-25). ## B. Kings Who Did Not Treasure God's Word These kings did not follow God's word, and suffered consequences: 1. Rehoboam, Joram (Jehoram), Ahaziah, Ahaz, Manasseh, Amon, Jehoahaz, and Eliakim (Jehoiakim) did not follow God's word, and did not do what was right (2 Kings 8:26-27; 16:2; 21:16, 19-21; 23:37; 2 Chronicles 12:14; 21:5-6; 22:4; 28:1; 33:2-6; 36:5). 2. Abijah, Joash (Jehoash), and Amaziah followed God's word, but not with a perfect heart (1 Kings 15:3; 2 Kings 14:3; 2 Chronicles 24:2; 25:2). ## We as New Testament Kings Israel and Judah declined because they neglected God's word. God's word is powerful and dangerous to neglect. When we follow God's word, we obtain life. God's word renews, cleanses, and supplies us. ### A. God's Word is Spirit and Life 1. To receive the life supply in God's word, we must eat God's word and pray (Ephesians 6:17-18). 2. This allows us to receive the Spirit and life supply, fulfilling God's word in our lives (John 6:63).
