Environmental Safety and Health Program requires : Clean tools and equipment work more efficiently. At the end of each working day clean the tools and equipment you used and check them for any damage. TAG THE TOOL as faulty and organize a repair or replacement. Environmental Safety and Health Program requires : Electrical current can travel over oily or greasy surfaces. Keep electrical power hand tools free from dust and dirt and make sure they are free of oil and grease. Environmental Safety and Health Program requires : All workshop hand tools and equipment should have maintenance schedule. Store commonly used hand tools in an easy- to-reach location. HARDWARE TOOLS Hardware tools are grouped into these four categories: 1)Electro-Static Discharge (ESD) tools 2)Hand Tools 3)Cleaning Tools 4)Diagnostic Tools 1. Electro-Static Discharge (ESD) Tools Static electricity is easily generated by friction on carpets, tile flooring, clothing, hair, fabric, and etc. The friction of moving air alone will charge suspended particles and cause the buildup of static electrical charges on people and objects in the environment. Electro-Static Discharge (ESD) Tools 1. Anti-static wrist strap – used to prevent ESD damage to computer equipment. Electro-Static Discharge (ESD) Tools 2. Anti-static mat – used to stand on or place hardware on to prevent static electricity from building up. Electro-Static Discharge (ESD) Tools 3. Anti-static bag- is a packaging material that is specially designed to help prevent static electricity interacting with sensitive electrical components. 2. Hand Tools A hand tool is a device for performing work on a material or a physical system using only hands. The hand tools can be manually used employing force, or electrically powered, using electrical current. Hand Tool 1. Flat head screwdriver – used to loosen or tighten slotted screws. Hand Tool 2. Philips head screwdriver – used to loosen or tighten crosshead screws. Hand Tool 3. Torx screwdriver - used to loosen or tighten screws that have a star-like depression on the top, a feature that is mainly found on laptop. Hand Tool 4. Hex driver – sometimes called a nut driver, is used to tighten nuts in the same way that a screwdriver tightens screws. Hand Tool 5. Needle- nose plier – used to hold small parts Hand Tool 6. Wire cutter – used to strip and cut wires Hand Tool 7. Tweezers – used to manipulate small parts. Hand Tool 8. Flashlight or Headlight – used to light up areas that you cannot see well. Hand Tool 9. Cleaning Tools Having the appropriate cleaning tools is essential when maintaining or repairing computers. Using these tools ensures that computer components are not damaged during cleaning. They also make computers tidy and dirt-free. Cleaning Tool 1. Lint-free cloth – used to clean different computer components without scratching or leaving debris. Cleaning Tool 2. Compressed air – used to blow away dust and debris from different computer parts without touching the components. Cleaning Tool 3. Cable ties – used to bundle cables neatly inside and outside of a computer. Cleaning Tool 4. Parts organizer – used to hold screw, jumpers, fasteners and other small parts and prevents them from getting mixed together. Cleaning Tool 5. Paint brush - its long and soft natural bristles can be used to dust off the surface of circuit boards and its hard- to reach areas. Cleaning Tool 6. Rubbing alcohol- used to wipe away sticky substances on the surface of components; its quick evaporation lessens the chance of causing electrical damage to components. 4. Diagnostic Tools Computers are easier to use and more dependable with each new generation of hardware and operating system update, but that doesn't mean they're problem free. Diagnostic tools are used to test the integrity of circuits and functionality of ports. Diagnostic Tool 1. LAN Tester- is a device used to test the network connection. Diagnostic Tool 2. Digital Multimeter- also called Volt-Ohm- Milliammeter (VOM); a handy and battery operated tool used to measure voltge, current and resistance; and effective tool to check or diagnose if the circuits in a component is working or not. Diagnostic Tool 3. Multimeter – used to test the integrity of circuits and the quality of electricity in computer components. Diagnostic Tool 4. Loopback Adapter – used to test the functionality of computer ports. Diagnostic Tool 5. Toner probe – the toner part is connected to a cable at one end using specific adapters, such as an RJ-45, coaxial, or metal clips. The toner generates a tone that travels the length of the cable. The probe part traces the cable. When the probe is in near proximity to the cable to which the toner is attached, the tone can be heard through a speaker in the probe. Diagnostic Tool 5. Toner probe
