Pauline Epistles Colossians Romans 1 Thessalonians 1 Corinthians 2 Thessalonians 2 Corinthians 1 Timothy Galatians 2 Timothy Ephesians Titus Philippians Philemon Catholic Epistles The Catholic Epistles are called by the name of the author. They are called “Catholic” because they were intended for anyone in the Church. Catholic Epistles Hebrews James 1 John Jude 2 John 1 Peter 3 John 2 Peter Purposes of the Epistles St. Paul wrote the Epistles to provide suggestions, words of counsel, encouragement, or consolation to the people during the times of difficulties. The letters are PASTORAL in nature NOT personal. PASTORAL means that they were written on the hope of helping people with the difficulties they were facing grounded on the Gospel. They are supplementary to ordinary teaching in response to the particular conditions of the community. Themes of these Letters Paul in his Journey delivered the message of the Gospel to the people in response to their situation.
