What is this fixture? B.MAIN LESSON 1) Activity 2: Content Notes (13 mins) Fixtures are receptacles attached to a plumbing system other than a trap in which water or waste may be collected or retained for ultimate discharge into the plumbing system. Common types of plumbing fixtures used in residences 1. Water closet 4. Urinal 2. Lavatory 5. Bidet 3. Kitchen sink 6. Bath tub 1. Water closet A plumbing fixture used to receive human excremental and to discharge it through a waste pipe, using water as a conveying medium. Water closets are classified according to design, make, flushing mechanism, shape and installation. Types of water closet as to design a. Siphon washdown - the least expensive but the noisiest; only small amount of standing water- susceptible to fouling, staining and contamination. It is mechanically satisfactory and is lower in price. Hence, it is widely used and entirely acceptable where price is the main consideration. b. Siphon jet - the jet being submerged introduces its water underwater so that its operation is entirely muffled. It has a large amount of standing water to prevent fouling. It is mechanically efficient but expensive. Siphon vortex - this type of bowl develops its flushing action through the water entering through diagonal holes around the rim which creates a swirling action which forms a vortex in the center. It is considered to be the most quiet, most efficient and most sanitary water closet. d. Reverse trap – the trap way located at the rear of the water closet eliminated the bulged at the front. The design and appearance of the bowl plus its large water area and quietness in operation, make it desirable than siphon wash down Types of water closet as to make a. One-piece water closet - a water closet fixture is manufactured with the bowl and the flush tank molded into a single unit. Usually used in tandem with the bidet. Closed coupled water closet - a water closet where in the flush tank is separate but is attached to the toilet bowl. It is a two-piece model. c. Pail flush water closet - a water closet comprising only of a bowl without a flush tank. Flushing action is obtained only through water poured from a pail or bucket. This is used in areas where running water systems are not available. e. Squat bowl water- a water closet that is otherwise known as “Eastern type” since the user assumes a squatting position rather than a sitting position. Types of water closet as to flushing mechanics a. Flush tank- holds a supply of water for flushing a fixture such as the water closet. It has a capacity of 5 to 6 gallons This document is the property of PHINMA EDUCATION CIE 117: ENGINEERING UTILITIES 2 Students Activity Sheets #4 Name:____________________________________________________________ Class number: ______ Section: ____________ Schedule______________________________________ Date:______________ b. Flush valve- valve designed to supply a fixed quantity of water for flushing purposes. It is activated by direct water pressure without the use of a flush tank. It is also known as Flushometer or Flushometer valve. Types of water closet as to shape a. Round front- intended for installation on a limited space. This document is the property of PHINMA EDUCATION CIE 117: ENGINEERING UTILITIES 2 Students Activity Sheets #4 Name:____________________________________________________________ Class number: ______ Section: ____________ Schedule______________________________________ Date:______________ b. Elongated front- is more comfortable but occupies a larger space. Types of water closet as to installation a. Free Standing (Flour mounted) b. Wall Hung (Wall Mounted) Roughing-in dimensions of water closet This document is the property of PHINMA EDUCATION CIE 117: ENGINEERING UTILITIES 2 Students Activity Sheets #4 Name:____________________________________________________________ Class number: ______ Section: ____________ Schedule______________________________________ Date:______________ 2. LESSON WRAP-UP 1) Activity 6: Thinking about Learning (5 mins) {*Teacher directs the student to mark their place in the work tracker which is simply a visual to help students track how much work they have accomplished and how much work there is left to do. This tracker will be part of the student activity sheet} To develop habits on thinking about learning, answer the questions below about your learning experience 1. How was the lesson able to help you learn? 2. What made you interested on this topic? FAQs 1. What is a plumbing appliance? It is a water-connected or drain-connected devices intended to perform a special function. These devices have their operation or control dependent on one or more energized components, such as motors, controls, or heating elements. Such devices are manually adjusted or controlled by the owner or operator, or are operated automatically through one or more of the following actions: a time cycle, a temperature range, a pressure range, a measured volume or weight. 2. What is a plumbing appurtenances? It is a manufactured device, prefabricated assembly or an on-the-job assembly of component parts that is an adjunct to the basic piping system and plumbing fixtures. An appurtenance demands no additional water supply and does not add any discharge load to a fixture or to the drainage system. If this session happens to be a face-to-face, in-classroom learning session: 1) Collect completed work in the SAS. 2) Allocate your contact time with students to individual or small group mentoring, monitoring, and student consultations. 3) You may administer summative assessments (quizzes, demonstrations, graded recitation, presentations, performance tasks) during face-to-face sessions. 4) You may also explore supplementary activities that foster collaboration, provided that social distancing is observed. 5) You may provide supplementary content via videos, etc. It is important to remember that students who cannot make it to face-to-face, in-classroom sessions for health and safety reasons, should not be given lower grades for missing in-class activities and should be given alternative summative tests. B. If this session happens to be an at-home learning session for the students: 1) Check and grade collected SAS and other input from students. 2) Schedule phone calls/virtual calls/virtual chats to individual students or small groups of students to monitor work, provide guidance, answer questions, and check understanding.
