**Chemistry Booklet 2** Compound: A substance formed two or more elements are chemically combined Element: A substance that consists of one or more atom and cannot be broken down into anything simpler by chemical means Pure Substance: A single element or compound (Is not mixed with any other substance.) Melting point: the temperature when a solid turns into a liquid Boiling point: the temperature when a liquid turns into a gas When a substance is pure it has a sharp melting point. But when it is impure it: - Lowers the melting point - Makes the melting point have a range of numbers **Colour of Flame** **Cation Present** --------------------- -------------------- Crimson Lithium (Li+) Yellow Sodium (Na+) Lilac Potassium (K+) Brick Red Calcium (Ca2+) Blue-Green Copper (Cu2+)
