tissues Prepared By Prof. Amjad Al-Shatarat Department of Biomedical Sciences Faculty of Medicine Aqaba Medical sciences university 2024 11/24/2024 Prof.Amjad Alshatarat 1 Types Tissues are classified into 4 types according to their structure and function: 1. Epithelial tissues 2. Connective tissues 3. Muscular tissues 4. Nervous tissue 11/24/2024 Prof.Amjad shatarat 2 1. Epithelial tissues Major functions: 1.Act as a selective barriers 2.Produce secretions on their free surfaces. 11/24/2024 Prof.Amjad shatarat 3 Types: a. Simple squamous. a. Stratified squamous b. Simple cuboidal. 11/24/2024 Prof.Amjad shatarat 4 A. Simple squamous epithelium Formed of a single layer of flat cells and can be found in: 1-Mesothelium: that covers body’s cavities: A- Peritoneum B- Pleura C-Pericardium 11/24/2024 Prof.Amjad shatarat 5 B. Simple cuboidal Formed of a single Layer of cube-shaped cells. Locations: Line kidney tubules. 11/24/2024 Prof.Amjad shatarat 6 A-Stratified squamous epithelium Formed of several layers of cells. Found mainly in places as: skin, mouth, esophagus. 11/24/2024 Prof.Amjad shatarat 7 Connective Tissue(CT) Functions: Gives, maintains and supports shape of the body and its structures. Has 3 components: 1.Cells. 2.Fibers. 3.Ground substance. Dr.Shatarat امجد.د 11/24/2024 8 الشطرات Selected Connective Tissue Cells 1. Fibroblasts. The most common and numerous cells in connective tissue. 11/24/2024 9 Selected CT Fibers They function to strengthen and support connective tissues. Collagen fibers: – The most abundant protein in the human body. – Organize in parallel bundles. – Very strong and resist tension, but allow flexibility. Dr.Shatarat امجد.د 11/24/2024 10 الشطرات muscular tissue Consist of elongated cells called muscle fibers or myocytes Types: –Skeletal. –Cardiac. –Smooth. 11 Selected 1- skeletal muscle Each skeletal muscle is a separate organ composed of hundreds to thousands of cells, which are called Muscle Fibers muscle cell and muscle fiber are two terms for the same structure 12 nervous tissue Nervous tissue is composed of neurons, also called nerve cells. Nervous tissue is found in: 1. the brain 2. spinal cord 3. nerves. 11/24/2024 Prof.Amjad shatarat 13
