Options for Website Advertising Developing Your Own Website Resources Needed: Web designers, hardware, software Security: Programmers to protect against hacking and pharming Costly: Higher initial setup and maintenance costs Advertising on an Existing Website Outsource: Pay other websites to host ads for a quicker, less costly approach 5 Information Communication Technology Advantages and Disadvantage of Websites 6 Information Communication Technology Media Streaming Media streaming is when users watch movies/videos or listen to music on devices connected to the internet. There’s no need to actually download video or audio files. Streaming is a continuous transmission of video or audio files from a remote server where the files are stored. This means data is transmitted and played in real time. Unlike downloading which use up valuable storage space, it does not require the entire file to be stored on user’s HDD or SSD to use the file. 7 Information Communication Technology How Streaming works With streaming, the file is sent as a series of packets of data. Each packet is interpreted by the web browser. Streaming requires stable internet connection. Because the playback of the media files is usually much faster than the rate at which data is received over the internet, data packets are buffered in the computer. Buffering makes sure the video plays back smoothly without freezing. Having a large buffer will considerably reduce the possibility of freezing the play back. 8 Information Communication Technology Streaming Data Packets Buffering of media stream 9 Information Communication Technology
